Happy Christmas (Year 5)

Start from the beginning

Another boy came into the frame with him at the same time, his arm tossed casually around the former's shoulder in a friendly embrace. He was in every way the spitting image of Harry except that the eyes peeking out from behind his sunglasses were a dark brown and his hair curled at the edges creating a tangled mess of hair. He had simple jeans on, much less fitted than his friend's, a polka dotted button up polo, and a black suit jacket. What stood out the most to Y/n though was not the harmonica fitted around his neck, but rather the lopsided grin painted on his lips that looked like a direct copy of Harry's.

She felt an intense sense of deja vu overwhelm her.

Lastly, on the young Remus' other side stood a stout, baby faced boy with a sheepish smile on his pale face that stretched to his round cheeks. The brown fur coat he wore seemed to swallow his frame that stretched further horizontally than it did vertically and contrasted with the bright indigo color of his parachute pants. He rocked a pair of pink square shaped sunglasses that were bedazzled on the edges with rhinestones that glittered in the lens.

From left to right they all wore their own versions of grand smiles, decked in the attire of their favorite musicians, all from the same decade as them.

Y/n recognized the outfits to be Halloween costumes of Elton John, David Bowie, Freddie Mercury, and Bob Dylan. It was actually rather ingenious and the outfits themselves were remarkable. As someone who loved Halloween she found herself smiling absently as she gazed at the moving picture.

But something more important seemed to snag her attention: the people in the photo. She knew the boy dressed as David Bowie was her professor Lupin when he was a teenager and she could tell from sheer resemblance that the boy dressed as Bob Dylan must've been Harry's father, but she didn't know they were friends. And who were the other people?

Flipping distractedly through the pages, she stopped when she saw the same troublesome smile above the words "Biggest Flirt"

"Huh," She huffed in amusement to herself as she realized she found a page of senior superlatives. Y/n's eyes trailed the different superlatives, realizing with a chuckle that one of the names repeated a few times.

Class clown: James Potter.
Most creative: Pandora Rosier.
Most athletic: Marlene McKinnon.
Most likely to succeed: Lily Evans.
Best eyes: Lily Evans.
Most likely to have perfect attendance: Lily Evans.

"This Lily Evans girl was really on a roll." Y/n observed, entertainment dripping in her voice. "Sounds like my kind of girl."

But Y/n's interest was piqued as her eyes continued further down the page and she realized the name of the boy with the troublesome smile.

Biggest flirt: Sirius Black.

"Sirius Black..." Y/n murmured while taking in a sharp inhale of air, feeling the soft skin of her face going pale without needing to look.

If Sirius Black was that same boy that meant just like Harry said he was friends with his father despite being the one in Azkaban for his betrayal.

Her finger traced the page furiously looking for some hint that she was wrong, but her suspicions, her worst fears were only confirmed when she saw the last superlative.

Best bromance: James Potter and Sirius Black.

"Fuck..." Y/n cursed under her breath. The air in the library suddenly felt too thick to get into her lungs.

Her heart dropped to the bottom of her stomach. They weren't just friends. They were best friends. Y/n turned back to the page of the Halloween photo and saw that Harry's father, James, had his arm around Sirius. They were wrapped in an embrace that was brotherly in nature and spoke of a bond that ran deeper than blood.
