“Promise me,” I whispered, clutching his hand as the rain poured down on the roof of our car.

“Promise you what?” he asked, his voice trembling with exhaustion.

“Promise me you’ll never leave me, James. Not even for a moment.”
He had smiled then, brushing a wet strand of hair from my face. "Never. Not even for a moment."

First Movie Night

Okay, don’t judge me, James said, holding up a DVD with a sheepish grin.

I squinted at the cover. The Notebook. You’re joking, right? You’re the guy who said rom-coms were the bane of humanity.

Yeah, well, he shrugged, plopping onto the couch beside me. I thought you’d like it.
I burst out laughing, the sound filling our tiny apartment. You’re ridiculous, you know that?

Ridiculously charming, he quipped, sliding an arm around my shoulders.
As the movie played, I found myself tearing up at the emotional scenes. James, meanwhile, was a mess.

I hate this movie, he muttered, wiping his eyes.
I smirked, handing him a tissue. "Sure you do."
