He groans in pain as he continues to help Cora.

"Careful." Peter scolds, coming up behind him.

"Don't worry, I know going too far could kill me." Derek answers, letting her hand go and standing, placing Jason back on the bed.

"That's not exactly what I meant." Peter states, standing by the window.

Derek walks over to the table, standing in front of Peter with just the table in between.

"So speak." Derek commands, folding his arms across his chest.

"I've heard it's something only an Alpha can do, and with good reason." Peter begins.

"Which is?" Derek asks, looking to his sister in concern

"You know, normal wolves never abandon an injured member of the pack. They care for it. They bring it food from a kill and then regurgitate it into the mouth of the injured wolf. They even give it physical and emotional comfort by intensely grooming it. In a way, they can do more than just ease pain-- they can be instrumental in healing their own."

"If you're trying to tell me I can save her, just tell me." Derek states, irritability in his tone.

"I'm telling you -- I heard it's possible."

"How?" Jason asks from his seat on the bed, ice pop finished. His dad and great-uncle both turn to face him. Jason shrugs. "I've been listening the whole time... I'm sooooo board." The child groans, throwing his head off the side of the bed.

Peter rolls his eyes and continues. "He's so your child... And to answer - It's that spark of power that makes you an Alpha. When you take her pain, she draws on the power that provides you with those special gifts: the power that heightens your senses, your strength; the power that transforms your body. As an Alpha, you have that bit of extra-- that spark intensifies the color of your eyes from a bright yellow into a searing red."

"If I can save her--" Peter cuts him off.

"If." Peter points out, pointing his finger at Derek. "If. I didn't say it works every time. It could just as easily kill you."

"But how does he do it?" Jason asks. "We just want to answer Uncle Peter! Not the background info!"

"Jason!" Derek smiles slightly despite the situation. He turns back to Peter. "How do I do it? By taking her pain?"

Peter turns back to look out the window. "And then some, because there's a cost... I can understand you not seeing a downside to this, since you haven't exactly been Alpha of the Year, but think about what else you'd be losing."

Derek walks over to the window, standing next to Peter. "I don't care about power. Not anymore."

"What about the power to fight back?" Peter points out. "Correct me if I'm wrong, but Kali's ultimatum still stands-- the full moon is tomorrow night. And, if you couldn't beat her as an Alpha, how do you think you're gonna fare as a Beta?"

"I don't. Care."

"What if this was exactly what Jennifer was hoping for? She would know the only way for you to save Cora would be giving up your power. Maybe that's what she was gonna have you do at the hospital."

"Why?" Derek asks, confused. He has no relation with this women besides their two run ins of him saving her and asking if she was okay.

"So that you wouldn't be able to face the Alphas without her! She wants you to come to her, so that she would not sacrif-"

"Don't finish that sentence!" Derek snaps, slamming his hand down on the table.

"Tell me how to help Cora, or leave." Derek stares at his uncle. Never has Peter seen him this angry, this intense.
