Chapter 31
The Breaking Point

Continuation....

After reading the news of the reception on the internet, Sumitra's neighbors taunted her. When she stepped down from the car.

'Oh, look at Sumitra ji. Her son must be enjoying life as a rich man's son-in-law.'

"Sumitra ji..finally you all are rich"

"Somya, Divya.... Your brother is so intelligent"

Sumitra didn't said anything and went inside the home. She was really so exhausted.

Bhumi was waiting for sumitra, somya and Divya's car to arrive.

"Aunty, are you okay?" Bhumi asked, her voice lacing with concern. Sumitra smiled and kissed her forehead while caressing her cheek. Somya and Divya said good night and went inside their room.

"Yes... Bhumi. Go rest" Sumitra said and she nodded but hook her earring in her saree without her knowledge.

Sumitra went inside the room... She was about to change but found Bhumi's earrings struck there.

She decided to return it.. But she was shocked when she heard what Bhumi said. With heavy heart, Sumitra decided what she has to do.

Shivansh's mind reeled as Bhumi's loud sobs filled the room. Her words had caught him off guard, twisting reality into something unrecognizable. Divorce? Where did that come from? He hadn't even mentioned it. On top of that... He clearly denied when she voiced out.

And then, before he could make sense of it, a voice cut through the tension like a blade.

"Shivansh."

His spine stiffened. He turned around, his heartbeat slowing as he saw his mother standing at the doorway. Sumitra's eyes burned with unshed tears, but the disappointment in them was what shook him the most.

"Maa-" he started, but she raised a hand, stopping him mid-sentence.

"I have heard enough." Her voice was quiet, but the weight behind it was suffocating. "First, society pointed fingers at me, whispering that my son married into wealth to secure his future. I ignored it. Then, my own family ridiculed me, saying that I have lost my son to money. I endured it. Today, even my neighbors mock me. 'Oh, look at Sumitra ji. Her son must be enjoying life as a rich man's son-in-law.' I endured it too. But how can you think to leave my daughter-in-law. You can never understand how difficult for her to live in this small house. She is doing everything because of you. But you always hurting her. Why shivansh? What happened to you?? You were not like this"

Her voice trembled as she took a step forward. "I have lived my life with dignity, Shivansh. But now? That dignity is gone. And you know what hurts the most? My daughter-in-law is not happy either. I can't take it more Shivansh"

Shivansh's throat tightened. "Maa, you know I never cared about money-"

"But that doesn't matter now, does it?" Sumitra's bitter laugh rang through the room. "Because the world has already decided. I have been humiliated enough, and I refuse to endure more."

"Maa, please-"

"You should protect your wife" Sumitra's gaze flickered to Bhumi, who still had tears in her eyes but was now watching the scene unfold with careful calculation. "But not under my roof."

Shivansh's blood ran cold. "Maa, what are you saying?"

"I'm saying you to leave, Shivansh," Sumitra declared, her voice unwavering. "Take your wife and go. Live your life the way you want. Maybe then, the taunts will stop. Maybe then, I will get my peace back."

The words hit him like a slap. He looked at his mother, searching for some hesitation, some indication that she didn't mean it. But he found none.

"No," he said firmly. "I am not leaving." He increased his voice. And his sisters also came into the room to see what happened.

Sumitra's jaw tightened. "You are."

"I will not leave my house, Maa."

"This is no longer your house." Her words cut through him like ice. "The moment you married Bhumi, everything changed. This family is being judged because of your decision. I thought I could bear it, but I can't anymore."

"Maa, please don't do this," Shivansh pleaded, desperation creeping into his voice. "I am your son-"

"Then act like one!" Sumitra snapped, her patience finally breaking. "Act like the son I raised! The one who understood my pain, my sacrifices! But no, you chose to marry her, and now, you bear the consequences. If you truly respect me, Shivansh, then leave."

Shivansh clenched his fists. His world was crumbling before him, and he was powerless to stop it.

Behind Sumitra, Somya and Divya stood silently, their faces streaked with tears. They didn't speak, but their trembling shoulders spoke volumes. They were watching their brother and mother fight-something that had never happened before.

His sisters, his mother, his home-everything he had ever known was slipping away.

His gaze shifted to Bhumi. She had stopped crying. But She wasn't trying to convince his mother otherwise. In fact, she looked... calm.

Realization struck him hard.

She wanted this.

His jaw tightened. "You knew this would happen, didn't you?" he asked, his voice low and accusing.

Bhumi blinked innocently. "What are you talking about, Shivansh?"

"You planned this. You provoked Maa."

Bhumi tilted her head. "I didn't say anything untrue. I only said I didn't want you to leave me."

Shivansh inhaled sharply, anger burning through his veins.

Sumitra shook her head, stepping back. "Enough. Why are you blaming her?? I don't want to hear another word." Her voice was eerily calm now. "Take your wife and go, Shivansh. Before I say something I'll regret it."

Shivansh's entire body tensed. He looked at his mother, his sisters, his home. And then he looked at Bhumi, the woman who had turned his life upside down.

"Fine," he said at last, his voice barely above a whisper. "If that's what you want."

With one last glance at his weeping sisters, he turned and started packing his bag. Bhumi followed him and packed her bag too with sad face.

After a few minutes...

He move toward the door, his heart feeling heavier with every step.

Bhumi, victorious yet unreadable, followed behind him, leaving behind the family that have been his entire world.
