"Uh-huh bhai, how does it feel to be just one step away from marrying my best friend?" Aditi teased her cousin, her eyes twinkling with mischief.
Laughter erupted all around as Amaira shyly looked down, her cheeks flushed a warm pink, while Ashvik smirked, his gaze fixed lovingly on her.
"Like I've finally found my missing piece." he said without hesitation, his voice deep but tender.
That single line made the moment freeze in time-Amaira's eyes lifted to meet his, and in that silent gaze, the world melted away.
Amaira's sister-in-law squealed, blushing and jumping with excitement, making the elders laugh in amusement. Meanwhile, her brothers-Alessandro, Matteo, Carlos, Cassio, and Piero-rolled their eyes in unison, trying (and failing) to hide the jealousy bubbling inside them.
First, their little sister was smitten, and now their wives too?
Ashvik Rai Singhania surely had his charm...
But would they ever admit it? Absolutely not. Never."I'll apply the haldi first to Vik." Vivek declared proudly, as the golden turmeric paste was placed before them on a beautifully decorated table.
"Why? I'm older than you-and him. I should be the one." Sumit countered, raising a brow.
"Fuck off, man." Vivek muttered under his breath, making a few of the youngsters snicker while the elders narrowed their eyes playfully at his language.
"You two morons fight all you want," Ethan smirked, flicking an imaginary speck off his kurta. "I'm going to be the one to apply haldi on my twinny."
Vivek didn't even blink before flashing him a middle finger.
Sumit, on the other hand, just sighed and crossed his arms. "Idiots."Before the chaos could escalate, Xavier gracefully jumped between them like he was stepping into a wrestling ring. "Listen, little brothers, fight later. I'll go first. I'm the eldest. I'll start the ceremony."
"Why is that, Little Brothers?" Matteo taunted with a teasing glare, deliberately putting emphasis on 'little,' while shooting a look at both Xander and Ethan. "Since when did turning twenty mean you run the show?"
"He does run the show though," Xander quipped, grinning as he folded his sleeves dramatically. "But not today. Today, I go first. She's my baby sister, my baby aira."
"Excuse me?" Ethan scoffed. "I shared a womb with her! If anyone gets first rights, it's me. Twin privileges, remember?"
While the brothers continued to argue like toddlers in a candy store, Amaira-still sitting gracefully on the swing-burst into soft laughter, her face hiding behind her flower-adorned hands, the jasmine and marigold strands brushing against her cheeks.
The elders shook their heads from the sidelines, smiling fondly at the chaos. This was what family looked like-noisy, messy, but filled with love.
Alessandro finally crossed his arms, standing tall with that signature big-brother glare. "I'm the eldest. I'll just go up and apply it myself. Problem solved."
Carlos rolled his eyes at his brothers' never-ending drama, but his gaze eventually softened when it landed on the couple-his cupcake and the man who was going to be her husband. They sat close, heads tilted toward one another, whispering and giggling like they existed in their own little world.
He smiled, heart full, watching them. Amaira leaned into Ashvik, still laughing, eyes sparkling.
"They'll be at this all day."
