Stefan Salvatore was a vampire — along with his older brother, Damon. Athena couldn't believe it. The supernatural actually existed. When Elena had finally gotten Stefan to leave her house that night, she rushed into Athena's room to confirm everything they thought, which led to the Gilbert girl sleeping in her cousin's room, wanting some company for the night.
The next morning, Elena wanted answers. So she reached for her phone and called Stefan to ask for him to meet her and Athena. "You said you would explain everything." Elena reminded the vampire who sat in front of her and beside Athena. "That's why I asked you to meet us here."
"Eh, I'm just here for moral support really." The Sommers girl awkwardly pointed out, and Elena and Stefan glanced her way, making her clear her throat. "Um, I'll just shut up now." She chuckled.
Elena looked back at Stefan to continue. "When you google 'vampire', you get a world of fiction. What's reality?" She asked.
"I can tell you both whatever you want to know."
"We know you eat garlic." Elena mentioned.
Stefan nodded. "Yes."
"And, somehow, sunlight's not an issue?" Elena continued, but before Stefan could answer that, a waitress approached their table with their drinks on a tray.
"Hi. Here are your drinks." The waitress passed them over with Athena being handed the bottle of water she ordered.
"Thank you." The Sommers girl smiled kindly at the woman who walked away, before turning her attention back to the Salvatore vampire when he resumed their conversation and gave his answer as soon as the waitress was out of ear shot.
Stefan lifted his right hand. "We have rings that protect us."
Athena hummed. "Crucifixes?"
"Decorative."
"Holy water?" Elena asked.
"Drinkable." Stefan replied.
"Mirrors?"
"Myth."
"You said you don't kill to survive." Elena pointed out, recalling what he had confessed during their argument the night before.
"Animal blood keeps me alive." Stefan explained to the two of them. "I'm not as strong as Damon. He can be very powerful."
Athena tilted her head. "And yet you let him get involved with Caroline?" She was still furious to have found those marks on her best friend back at the Founders party.
