Between spending hours in school just to listen to boring professors and fighting overpowered beings that only wanted to kill her, Lyra Reyes would've definitely chosen the latter. There was no doubt about it. She hated staying half her day in there, with all those stupid teenagers (Yes, she was seventeen but she liked to describe herself as someone pretty smart). She much preferred getting her ass kicked—at least it was for a good cause. But with who Lyra was, she didn't have much of a choice. She had to go to school, at least until college, or her father would have never let her heard the end of it. And all that she wanted to be was a superhero, so not doing that was also out of the question. She was supposed to balance both sides of her life perfectly. But being a slightly stupid teenager and all, she kind of failed every time.
That's why she was leaning her forehead against the cold green metal of her locker, eyes closed. Hair, now blonde, covering the sides of her head. One arm hugging her own waist as she tried to ignore the pain from the healing bruise at her side. She couldn't even remember who was behind that hit, she just knew that they had to be pretty strong if her body was still recovering. But she had never minded the bruises. A hero never does.
"Gosh Ly, tell me that's the face of someone who pulled an all-nighter for the physic test, please" Eve's voice made her straighten up slowly, and in the same speed she turned her head towards the redhead as she thought about her words.
She knew she didn't have a good look that day, even though she had tried to put herself together first thing in the morning. But there wasn't much she could have done against the tiredness of getting beaten up. Still, there was another part of her friend's phrase that made her eyes slightly widen. "The Physic... Test?" she repeated, confused.
"Lyly!"
"I know, I know." she closed her eyes again, before she mimicked banging her head against the locker. "You. Are. So. Stupid." one hit for each muttered word. When she finished being dramatic, she sighed as she grabbed her books. "I got caught up with Tenebris, you know she doesn't like to show up during daytime."
Eve rolled her eyes. "There are heroes that work at night, you should focus on school" She smiled softly as she took in her friend's appearance. She noticed the way Lyra shifted as to not push much weight on one leg, the arm holding her side, and the poorly covered eye bags. "C'mon, I'll go over my notes as we head to class"
"Don't look at me like that, you make me feel insecure" pointed out the blond haired girl as she walked at the other's side.
"As if." Eve had always considered her friend gorgeous, and she loved to remind it to her. She also knew that if there was one thing that couldn't be took from Lyra it was her confidence. The redhead sent her another stare, a second longer, to check everything once again. "Why aren't you healed? When did you have the fight?"
Lyra scoffed, not annoyed at her friend's worry but at the fact that she could analyze her so easily. "I'm healing now, came home at six so I didn't really get—"
"Six?!" Eve stopped in her tracks, grabbing the blonde's arm so that she was forced to do the same. "Did you get any sleep at all?"
Lyra smiled nervously. "Yes, yes, don't worry about it." She changed positions, grabbing the other girl's forearm and dragging her forwards. "Let's just get to class. If dad hears anything about me being late he'll let me see my suit only so I can clean it from my own blood. What are we doing in physics right now?"
The redhead let herself get carried through the hallways. She let out a small laugh at her friend last sentence. She couldn't believe that she still had all good grades, it was a miracle that she could actually keep up with the studying. She voiced her thoughts as she remembered all the talks about Lyra's mysterious dad. "I don't think you have any chances of seeing tomorrow."
