I'm confused.
Why are they reacting like that?
I move my gaze to where they are looking and what I see makes me shock as well.
Karthi is wearing a long white shirt that reaches her mid thigh and cotton shorts peek out from the end.
My eyes threatened to come out of their socket at the amout of times I have widened my eyes I this past half an hour.
What the hell!!
When did she wear this?
*cough* *cough*
Startled, I moved my gaze from her to the lady of my lady, who looked at me as if saying 'eyes off from her'.
I mentally face palmed myself, thinking what I've gotten myself into.
"Kya kar rhe the tum yaha?" And here comes the first bomb.
(What were you doing here?)
Kya kar raha tha me? Me kya kar raha tha? Me to aapki beti ke bulane pe aaya tha.
(What was I doing? What was I doing? I came here when your daughter called me.)
I want to tell her but I can't. Varna meri kahani shuru hone se pehle hi khatam.
(Otherwise my story will end before it even begins.)
I opened my mouth to answer but she threw a second question at me.
"Aur tumhe kese pata vo yaha rehti hai?" Her eyes narrow, full of suspicion.
(And how do you know she lives here?)
"Uh..um vo.. vo mai-
"Ye vo mai vo mai kya laga rakha hai? Answer me why are you here and how do know she lives here?" She again cut me off and scolded me.
(what have you put on this that me that me?)
Aree aap bolne de tab na.
I screamed mentally.
"Dekho abhi bhi chup ho" she says.
(Look you are still quiet)
"Me yahi rehta hu" I say abruptly making her flinch a little.
(I live here)
She squints her eyes at me with an expression that says 'what?'
"Yaha?" She asks pointing her finger downwards and I realize what she meant and what I said.
(Here?)
Shit.
"Vo mera matlab... yahi building mein. Top floor." I correct myself quickly.
(I mean... in this building. Third floor.)
"Achha"
She still looks unconvinced. Her eyes stay on me like I'm some criminal caught red-handed, trying to cook up a story.
I try my best to appear calm, collected, sanskari even. But I can feel a drop of sweat rolling down my back.
"Toh galti se is ghar ka darwaza khol diya?" she asks, voice sharp like a blade.
(So you opened this door by mistake?)
Confused I say, "ji?"
Sensing my confusion she says,
"Agar tumhe aana hi tha to gaye kyu?" Her words again makes me confused.
(If you had to come then why did you go?)
