Under the Stars
Best Friends to Lovers---
For two years, Mikey and Y/N had been the kind of best friends others could only dream about. Late-night phone calls, wild prank wars, secret lair snacks, shared sketchbooks, ridiculous inside jokes—there wasn’t a part of their lives untouched by each other’s presence.
He was chaos wrapped in sunshine. She was the calm in his storm. And somewhere between hanging out at the Hidden City markets and helping Donnie test explosive glitter bombs, the line between platonic and something more began to blur.
Not that either of them would admit it.
Mikey would smile a little longer when Y/N laughed. He'd doodle hearts in the corners of his sketchbook when drawing her. His stomach would flip every time her hand brushed his. But every time he got close to saying something, he'd chicken out.
Y/N wasn’t any better. She loved how he could brighten the darkest day with a pun or a smile. How gentle he was with her feelings, even when the world around them was loud and fast. But how do you tell your best friend you think you might be in love with them?
So, they didn’t.
Instead, they danced around the feelings. Shared glances that lasted a second too long. Awkwardly pulled back from almost-hand-holding. And still, the bond grew.
That is… until Mikey couldn’t take it anymore.

“Bro,” Raph said one evening, arms crossed while watching Mikey pace in the dojo. “Either you tell Y/N or I will. Watching you turn into emotional soup every time she smiles is painful.”
“I second that,” Donnie muttered, barely looking up from his holo-tablet. “It’s like watching a sitcom in slow motion, except I’m not laughing anymore.”
Leo popped a popcorn kernel in his mouth. “I already made bets with April on when you’d crack. You’re overdue by three months, Mikey.”
Mikey groaned and dropped dramatically onto the mat. “It’s not that easy! What if she doesn’t feel the same? What if I ruin everything?”
Leo smirked. “Then you go down in flames fashionably. But hey—at least you’ll know.”
That night, Mikey stayed up in his room, surrounded by scraps of fabric, paint markers, and half-finished sketches. Then it hit him—a plan.
A perfect, Mikey-style plan.

When Y/N found a handwritten invitation in her backpack the next morning, complete with a small doodle of Mikey winking and holding a rose in his teeth, she blinked in confusion.
> “You are cordially invited to a very special night!
Bring your finest smile, your favorite dress, and an appetite.
Meet me on the rooftop by 9 PM. Trust me ;)
Love, Mikey 💛🐢✨”Her heart skipped a beat.
---
Y/N’s orange dress swayed with the wind as she climbed the fire escape. It shimmered faintly under the moonlight—Mikey’s favorite color on her. Her hair was styled just the way he liked, a few soft strands falling around her face.
When she reached the rooftop, her breath caught.
Mikey stood by the edge, facing away from her, wearing an honest-to-goodness black suit and tie. The sleeves were rolled just enough to reveal his green arms, and there was a small sunflower tucked behind one of his orange tails.
