Halfway Isn’t Enough

Jay stood outside the school gates, heart pounding louder than the morning bell.

She had rehearsed this conversation a hundred times, but now that it was here, words felt like strangers.

Keifer appeared, casual smile, but his eyes searched hers like he already knew this wasn’t going to be easy.

“Jay,” he started.

She cut him off, voice trembling but fierce. “Don’t. Just… don’t kiss me unless you mean it.”

His smile faltered, confusion flashing in his gaze. “I mean it. Every word.”

She shook her head. “You said you like me now. Like it’s new. But I… I’ve been falling for you since day one.”

Keifer swallowed hard. “Jay, I didn’t want to scare you. I didn’t want to lose you.”

Tears welled in her eyes. “You’re losing me anyway. Because halfway isn’t enough. I want all of you — all the truth, all the feelings. Not just the parts you’re ready to say.”

His hands trembled as he reached for hers. “I’m scared. But I’m here. All of me. If you want me.”

Jay looked down, heart aching. “I want you too. But I can’t be the only one trying.”

Keifer’s voice was raw. “I’m ready to try everything. Just… don’t give up on me.”

She met his gaze, trembling but certain. “I won’t.”

Their hands clasped, and the space between them felt like a promise — messy, uncertain, but real.
