With narrowed eyes, I decided to nod my head.
"Alright, you only have to work for a day, and this time, the store owner decides if you pass or not," she said. I looked over at Ash, who didn't seem to mind his judging rights being taken away.
"Any questions?"
"No," I answered.
"Alright then, good luck!" She waved as the screen disappeared, leaving only the two of us in front of the restaurant.
"Alright, let's do this thing!" I exclaimed as I pumped my fist in the air and pushed open the door.
The moment the restaurant's interior was revealed, my eyes widened so much I thought they were going to pop out of my sockets.
"...Wow," Ash stood beside me as he casually whistled. I shot him a glare, which unfortunately had no effect.
"Welcome, masters. How may I help you, nyah?" A waiter in a monochromatic lolita dress approached us, her fake cat ears wiggling on her head.
With a wink, she moved her hands in a way that all the hair behind my neck shoot up in secondhand embarrassment.
This was a maid restaurant!? I quickly dashed out of the restaurant to looked at its front sign.
Maid Latte
(A/N: Credit to the anime "Kaichou wa Maid-sama"!!!)
I face palmed myself. How did I not see that huge red flag right on the restaurant billboard? Letting out a sigh, I trudged back into the interior space.
"Welcome to Maid Latte! What would you like, masters?" The cat maid repeated her question to Ash and I. Before I could respond, Ash interrupted me.
"She wants to work here."
"W-wait! Um, you got it all wro-" I started but was interrupted once again.
"Oooh, new employees! Please come this way," she squealed as she pulled Ash and I into a room.
Once we were in the room, the girl introduced us to the manager. Her purple hair was especially eye-catching as the swayed by her waist. The manager pushed her glasses up her nose bridge, smiling. "I'm Misa, and I'm the manager!"
The woman who introduced herself as Misa had paused when she took note of our presence. "Yay, new employees! And not to mention, it's a couple! What are your names?"
"Ash." Ash replied, already uninterested in our conversation.
I felt my face turning red at her claim. "I'm May and w-we are not couples!"
"Aww, don't be shy. We love couples here!" She squealed as if my words had just gone in one ear and out the other.
I felt my face becoming even redder. "We are not couples! Come on, Ash go tell them that!"
"Tell them what?" He asked, clearly confused. As usual, he wasn't paying attention to what was going on at all! I sighed in defeat.
"Anyways, here are your work uniforms, go and put them on!" Misa shoved the uniforms in our hands and pushed us into the change rooms.
As if I was not already dying of secondhand embarrassment, I completely lost it after seeing the uniform.
After a long period of self-contemplation, I slowly opened my change room door and stepped out, feeling extremely conscious about my clothing. Once Misa saw me, she squealed and started jumping up and down. She kinda reminds me of Iris. I could only laughed awkwardly at her enthusiasm.
"Oh my goodness. MAY-CHAN, YOU LOOK ADORABLE!" Her eyes were sparkling as if it contained the galaxies. "YOU'RE PERFECT FOR A MAID!"
"Was that supposed to be a compliment?" I sweat dropped.
Looking at myself through the mirror, I couldn't help but cringe. This was way too embarrassing! I felt like a fantasy character wearing this black and blue maid dress; the white grills around the waist around circled around like cake frosting, and the white bow on my head made me look like a Christmas present. The outfit looked too... maid-y. At least for a tom girl like me, who was never a big fan of girly stuff. I grew up with sports, with karate as a good example. Yet now they're telling me to become a maid?! How was I suppose to do that?
"This is so embarrassing," I mumbled and buried my face in my hair.
"It's alright, you'll get used to it soon!" Misa exclaimed, "where's Ash-kun?"
I looked around after noticing Ash's absence. As I was searching with my eyes, the change room door beside mine opened, revealing none other than Ash.
"There he is!" Misa motioned him to come closer.
When he did as he was told, I couldn't help but blush. With a slim fit black tuxedo and a blue tie, Ash stood with his usual indifferent self, yet he appeared more proper than I had ever seen him. He wasn't wearing his hat either, which made his raven black hair seem messier than usual.
In other words: H-O-T
"Why am I doing this with you?" He frowned and ruffled his hair with one of his hands.
"Wait. You have matching outfits! What a coincidence!" Misa said innocently. I glared at her, knowing that it was fully planned in advance.
"Oh, she's right," Ash seemed impressed by the coincidence as he looked at himself, then at me.
How dense did he have to fall for such an obvious lie?
"Now, now. Let's get to work! You and May-chan could serve the food to the customers."
"Got it." Ash and I nodded in unison.
"Let's get this thing done!" I exclaimed.
I was ready for whatever this test throws at me.
