"Thanks, Felix."
They didn't stay in the bathroom for long because Alex was adamant that he wasn't going to ruin a group night out with some mild queasiness and he all but strong armed Felix out with reassurances that, yes, he was capable of dancing and, no, he was not going to get a star added to his name on the chunder chart. Felix was loath to leave him but, after assigning Ellie and Scotty onto his case, he stopped with his overbearing mother hen act and finally joined some strangers dancing.
"It's sweet," Ellie said, by his side, "he's just trying to be a good friend."
"He makes me feel like a lightweight."
"You are a lightweight."
He pulled a face. "Yeah, but you don't have to remind me of the fact."
She rolled her eyes, pulling him closer. "Don't worry, no one cares about that, so you should at least have fun and dance with me."
Alex laughed, tugging her so she was flush against his chest, because dancing was at least something he could do. There was a warmth against his back and he pushed against it experimentally, unable to help his laughter when hands ghosted around his sides where he was ticklish. Ellie looked at him and then over her shoulder, shaking her head unsurprised and went to get another drink, leaving him like she was doing him a favour.
Curious, he craned his neck and saw familiar blond curls. "What happened to that guy you were dancing with?"
Felix shrugged, resting his chin on his shoulder. "I didn't like him that much and, besides, I had to look after you."
"You don't have to."
"Maybe I want to."
"You won't get laid by doing this."
"S'allright," he said, "I'm sure someone's going to see me taking care of you and think I'd make a damn good boyfriend. It'll work out."
No one did and the two of them left the club alone, heading to Felix's place because Scotty had left with someone already and Alex was not keen on listening to that when he came back. It was just common sense, really, since Felix lived closer and had a big enough bed to accommodate both of them comfortably. And Alex wasn't normally the kind of guy who slept in other people's beds but it was university and everyone was so laidback and chill that he went along with it, too. Because it wasn't a big deal when he thought about it, it was just two bros hanging out. And maybe he spent an oddly disproportionate amount of time with Felix but he'd never met someone that he got on with so well, even if they were studying in completely different schools of the university.
He wasn't sure quite when it happened but, somehow, Felix and he became inseparable and he suddenly had a new best friend.
"I don't know if I liked the second flat," Felix was saying, when Alex came back from the gym. "It wasn't necessarily a thing but I didn't like the location and the flat as a whole."
"Thank you!" Ellie cried. "This is what I've been trying to tell Scotty all day, it's just not a nice flat and the layout of it is all wrong."
"Also," Alex said, because he had his favourites, too, "the landlord of the first property seemed downright sketchy and I've heard from other people that he's reluctant to hand back deposits."
"So the third one?" Scotty asked.
They looked around at each other and unanimously agreed. "The third one."
