Everyone turned to her perfectly knowing who she was. I heard murmuring that pretty much showed the surprise and realization of her presence. It also confirmed the increasing girl-fanning of everyone present of having, obviously, 3 school beauties here even though one has already graduated.

“Next is Kai, the main percussionists.” Zoë said pointing at a really dark haired guy with drumsticks sticking out of his pants. “Let me tell you all that even though we’re just a small amount of people, in a few months we’ll be receiving other percussionists and brass members.”

With that she turned to me and smiled softly, “Finally, this girl here who you heard performing at my party, Alexandra Bianci, is the main brass player.”

And again those murmurs went. Seriously? I mean, one this was to discuss the school beauties and all, (by the way I’m so glad there are no snobs here) and another is to discuss about me who no one really knows. Ah… to summarize, I was getting annoyed by this already… and too nervous too. I could feel my hands starting to sweat in the fists I had formed.

“Okay. So since we’re done with the basic introductions,” Zoë said setting her arm on the back of my chair. “I’m not going to submit you to your own personal introductions. There’s no need since I know no one is going to memorize the names. We have enough time to know each other.” She said smiling at everyone. “Now, since it’s already 5.15, sorry again that I was late, I guess we’re done for today. We can’t do much in 45 minutes considering we are going to start from zero. So just get your music sheets from the section leader and you can leave. We’ll see each other tomorrow alright?”

Well… that was simple of her. I looked at her shining eyes and then at everyone else. They all stared at her with unreadable expressions but some people just shrugged and stood up and were followed by everyone else.

“Way to get them to the other side of the town and then make them leave for nothing.” Jessica said setting her hand on Zoë‘s shoulder when she reached us.

“I hope they thing it was worth it.” Zoë said slapping Jessica’s hand lightly, “Plus I most live around here. Only about 15 of us live on the other side so that’s why every two weeks we’re going to alternate between the IMT and school.”

“Still. I wasted my precious gas money on coming here.” Jessica said crossing her arms in front of her chest.

“Just leave your violin inside the storage room and that’ll change your mind.” Zoë said smirking, “You have another one at home so you can practice with that one there, and with this one here.”

Jessica half-rolled her eyes at her. “Whatever. Just let us start tomorrow.”

“Don’t doubt it Jess.” Zoë said as Jessica turned and left to pack her stuff. Zoë turned to me, “Don’t think she’s upset. She’s just as impatient as I am and as a pessimist as you can be.”

“I’m not a pessimist.” I replied back frowning at her.

“You are.” Zoë said as she put her elbow on the back of her own chair and rested her face on her hand. “Hey, wanna head home with me or do you want to take the bus?”

“Why do you ask?” I asked her after a few seconds of considering the question. It was strange that she’d ask me that. Usually, she didn’t give me the option to go on the bus ever since I agreed the first time to head home on her bike. I think she’s assumed that it’s much more amusing to scare me to death than to head home at a faster speed. I don’t even know myself how I’ve agreed to it every time…

No. Forget it, I know. It’s because of the puppy eyes she gives me always… or simply because she doesn’t let go of my arm when I try to get out of the parking lot.

“Just wondering.” She said looking to the side.

I looked to where she looked as her eyes were left locked there and I saw how she was looking at Heather’s back. She was packing her unused-for-the-day flute into her case with quick and expert movements just like everyone else. I turned back to Zoë and I saw her forehead slightly get wrinkled from the soft frown she did.

“I’ll go with you then.” I said for the first time saying it clearly. I don’t know what made me say it but I guess it wasn’t a bad option since I felt like I wanted to get home quickly today. It was probably the fact that it had been the first day of school today, and I had been thinking way too much about unnecessary things. I was basically tired.

“Awesome.” Zoë said smiling back to me widely. “Wait for me at the lobby. I’ve got to go give something to the Director.”

She stood up from her chair and at the same time pulled my hand so that I could stand up. I felt her warm hand grip me a little tighter even though I was already on my feet. Maybe it was just my imagination but she didn’t seem to want to let go of me as she shifted her hand just barely inside of mine but then released me abruptly just moments later.

“Can you put the chairs back?” Zoë asked over her shoulder after she jumped off the stage.

“S-sure.” I stuttered to her.

As she walked up the steps I pulled my eyes from her and casted my eyes to examine the two chairs in front of me. Now that I thought about it… where to these go? And who the hell got them for us?

Well… whatever. I wanted to get out of this place already. No way did I want someone to talk to me just because the orchestra was made for me. I mean, it’s highly probable that someone would.

I grabbed one chair with each of my hands and went down to the side room where I just saw someone getting inside with an identical chair. As I neared it, I realized it was one of the people at Chris Walter’s party who had played with me… the drummer I think? He was probably the other percussionist along with Kai I think was his name? Anyway, he simply smiled at me and let me through as he went out; I guess he was more conscious about my anti-socialism than others.

At the corner of the room there were all the other chairs stacked in neat rows. I realized they were folded so I bothered myself with doing so with the two I had in hand and put them with the rest. It wasn’t that hard to be honest but I really wanted to leave already.

“Hey.” I heard coming from the door of the side room.

I turned around quickly realizing perfectly whose voice that was.

“Hey! No!” Heather said raising her hands in defense and shaking her head.  ”Don’t look at me like that. I… um…I wanted to say that I’m sorry.”

Huh?

What? What for…?

That  was sooo unexpected.
