"First day at Thunderview, Amabelle. Nervous?" My grandfather grinned at me over his newspaper.

"Sort of. It's the middle of the year." I crunched on a piece of bacon.

"You'll do fine, Darling. I'm sure you'll make loads of new friends." My grandmother kissed my grandfather's forehead.

"Your grandmother and I met in our senior year," Grandfather said affectionately.

"You know, I think I should get going. I don't want to be late on my first day." I placed my plate in the sink and grabbed my backpack, rushing out of the house before my grandparents began gushing about when they first met.

I'd heard the story hundreds of times. It was literally love at first sight; for werewolf mates it always is. Mated couples say that they know their mate by their voice, touch, presence. That being away from your mate was physically painful and too much time away from your mate could drive a wolf insane. The bond between an alpha and his mate was the strongest bond in existence. Once an alpha male claims his mate by making love to her, it pains them to be away from each other even for a few hours. I always found myself laughing at these rumors. It wasn't possible to love somebody that much, in my opinion.

According to Greek mythology, the first humans and lycans were created with four arms, legs, and eyes, and two heads, noses, and mouths. Afraid of their power, Zeus split them in two, leaving them to find their other half. The other half is called our soulmate. I had yet to find my 'other half' and couldn't care less whether I found him or not. Nobody could dull the pain I go through everyday, knowing that my parents were dead and my pack was dead. That the only ones I had left were my siblings and grandparents.

I climbed into my grandfather's rusty pickup truck and tossed my backpack onto the passenger seat. After a few tries, the car finally started and I turned the heat on full blast. The radio pounded with heavy metal bands; Everett had used the car before me. I scowled at the screeching music and quickly plugged in my iPhone. The song 'Angel' by Akon played through the speakers and I sighed, my ears relieved that the screeching and screaming rhythms were over.

"I'm looking at an Angel. And believe me when I say she got this whole place glowing, glowing, glowing, ooh," I hummed along.

The town my grandparents lived in was green. Not the sustainable kind of green, but literally green. Forests bordered the small town and mushy moss crept up the walls of most buildings. It was beautiful, the perfect place for a werewolf to live.

I slid into a parking stall in Thunderview High's lot and took a deep breath. I could do this. I grabbed my backpack and hopped out of the car, feeling curious gazes resting on me. Chewing my bottom lip, I let my feet lead the way. My boots clicked against the damp sidewalk as I headed to math. The map wasn't necessary, considering the school was so small, but it made me feel more comfortable.

All heads turned when I opened the door to the math room and a blush crept onto my face. My heart pounded, nervous that everyone's attention was on me. Almost immediately, my gaze locked with a set of stormy gray eyes. They froze my heart and sent tingles down my spine. This couldn't possibly be happening.

I reluctantly broke our gaze and walked over to the teacher's desk, feeling his eyes on me the entire time. The teacher looked me over and grunted before signing the slip of paper I gave him. I was to get that slip of paper signed by each of my teachers and drop it off at the office at the end of the day. Folding the paper up and stuffing it into my pocket, I sat near the back of the room.

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw him stand up and make his way toward me. Please no. He loped lazily toward me with the confidence only an alpha like himself would have. I pretended to ignore him as he got comfortable in the desk next to me and leaned back in his chair.
