Sarah had her back to me, and was pouring the batter for pancakes. Feeling a little mischievous, I snuck up on her and hugged her tiny waist. She immediately shrieked before turning round. When she saw it was me she let out a excited squeal before hugging me twice as hard, not allowing me to breathe.
‘’Happy birthday my Riri’’ gushed Sarah. I smiled back at her as she released me. She was the only one and I mean the only one allowed to use and get away with calling me that nickname! Even Cyn didn't use it...
‘’Thanks Sarah’’ Sarah was our personal chef and has been working for us for as long as I can remember. Apparently her and mom had been the best of friends in high school and when Sarah was kicked out of the house, mom took her in. Of course when she cooked her first meal here, her talent was recognized and so mom 'hired' her. She’s always been like a second mother to me.
‘’I’ve made your favorite’’ she told me before seating me at our dining table. It was one of those weirdly long, mahogany tables that could seat about 25 people. Not that it was needed of course, but dad liked to flaunt how rich he is.
Sarah did make my favourite. There in front of me were her world famous blueberry pancakes with a sprinkle of cinnamon. Just the way I like it. Next to it was a pitcher full of orange juice and a basket full of fruits.
Cyn was sitting next to me, stuffing her face with her favorite chocolate chip pancakes and some bacon and eggs on the side. My present lay out of my reach, on her other side.
I smiled back at Sarah, whose warm brown eyes looked close to tears. I sat down in my chair.
‘’It’s delicious’’ I moaned, after taking a bit out of my first pancake. Sarah laughed, and shook her head, which caused a few stray hairs loose from the tight bun she had her beautiful platinum blonde hair in.
‘’I know right!’’ said Cyn, finishing up her 3rd pancake. And that’s how Marilyn found us. She was still in her baby blue, silk nightgown but despite her clothing, she had her blonde locks already in a French braid, and had already applied Texas worth of make up. Why my dad married her, is yet a mystery to me! I mean she’s only 28, and my dad’s 39!
‘’Sarah where’s my sugar free, decaf caramel frappuccino?’’ she asked snottily. Me and Cyn rolled our eyes and Sarah went to the kitchen to get my step-mother’s coffee.
‘’So who’s the birthday girl today?’’ she asked snobbishly. ‘’Lynn? Or is it you Miley?’’ she asked both of us. See?! She can’t even remember our freakin names! I mean they’re not that weird or unusual either!
‘’Its Riley!’’ I snapped, she simply shrugged, as if it’s no big deal to forget the names of the people you’ve been living with for 5 years! ‘’And yes it’s my 18th today’’ I finished, rolling my eyes.
‘’Oh well happy birthday’’ she said, as she took her coffee from Sarah and exited the same way she came.
‘’I really don’t like her.’’ stated Cyn, drinking her juice, before getting up. ‘’Well I’m gonna go get ready, I’ll meet you down in 10 minutes ‘kay?’’ Once I nodded she rushed off to her room with my present. Her room and mine were right next to each other and inside we had sliding doors.
I turned to Sarah and we chatted amiably before Cyn came, wearing a soft pink, sundress and a pair of white gladiator sandals. She had on some white and yellow bangles and yellow studs in her ears. Today, she was wearing her white backpack that had yellow and pink stripes across it. Yeah, Cyn liked to co-ordinate her backpack with her outfit so everyday she changes her backpacks.
I grabbed my messenger bag, my car keys, and with a kiss on the cheek to Sarah, me and Cyn walked over to my car. My baby, my black Porsche Carrera! I first dropped Cyn off at her school, Rosemary middle school. Next year she’d be going to Rosemary High, where I’m currently driving to. I reach within another 10 minutes and park at my usual space.
I take a deep breath and slowly count to 5 before nodding to myself, and stepping out. As soon as I was out I was stampeded by the high schoolers…as usual!
‘’Omg Riley! I totally love your hair today!’’ I hadn't done anything new to it...
‘’Riley, like, where did you, like, get those boots, like, from?’’ How many times will she say 'like'? It’s really getting annoying…
‘’Omg Riley, like happy birthday!’’ Thank you...
‘’Hey Riley, wanna go on a date with me?’’ Why would I wanna do that?
‘’Hey like, am I like, invited to your like, birthday bash?’’ Yeah like, you can like, keep, like dreaming!
See? See how they behave just because I’m the head cheerleader. Yes, you heard right! I’m Riley Pearce, head cheerleader of Rosemary High!
‘’Coming through! Make way for the best friend’’ yelled Kat over the whole mess of students, interrogating me like I’m some actress or something! Jeez I’m just a cheerleader!
Kat finally reached me, and immediately pulled me in for a bear hug.
‘’Happy Birthday!’’ she yelled again, literally squeezing the life outta me.
‘’Can’t…breathe…Kat!’’ I gasped out. She immediately pulled pack, with a apologetic yet cheeky grin on her face. She was wearing black skinny jeans with a neon orange, green and pink splattered off shoulder. She had hot pink pumps on her feet, orange studs and 2 rings on both her hands...seriously I don't get why she's so obsessed with rings!
She had on black eyeliner that made her green eyes pop and look bigger than normal on her otherwise tiny face, and her cherry red waves lightly bounced on her shoulder blades, because of the jumping up and down she was doing. She was only 5’2 and would be what you call petite and graceful but she could also sock a good punch if she wanted.
‘’Hey! Was I the first this year or did Cyn beat me again?’’ she asked, ignoring the crowd as we started walking towards the school. We had another 15 minutes to beat before homeroom.
‘’Sorry Kitty kat, but Cyn beat you through it…again’’ I added, giving her a teasing smile of my own.
‘’Ugh! I hate it when you call me that Riles!’’ she moaned. I just giggled at her, before reaching my locker. Coincidently our lockers were right next to each other.
‘’But you’re just like a kitten to me, tiny, cute kitten’’ I coo-ed at her, patting her head, and she growled at me. And with that we both started laughing while pulling out the books we needed. Just as I was about to close my locker, a dark shadow fell on the locker in front of me.
Frowning, I turned around, and there standing in all his glory, was Kyle Walters, our school’s star quarterback, and a major player. Apparently he’s somehow got it in his tiny brain, that we would be the perfect couple, and terrorize this school, so he won’t leave me alone! Can’t he take a hint, when I very subtly yelled at him, last week in front of the whole cafeteria, that I’m not interested and will never ever date him?! Obviously he didn’t get the point or he wouldn’t be standing here now.
‘’What do you want Kyle?!’’ I asked exasperatedly, I didn’t wanna deal with him today of all days…I mean who wants to spend their birthday yelling at some guy who doesn’t get it into his thick brain, that I’m not interested in him.
‘’You’’ he says, smirking and leaning against the lockers on my other side.
‘’Leave me alone!’’ I say slowly, and pull Kat away, just as the bell rings for homeroom. Saved by the bell, who knew right?
I sigh and sit down next to Kat at my usual seat, and wait for Mrs. Daniels. Something tells me this year is gonna be one year I’m not gonna wanna forget.
A/N: Hey guys !!!!!!!!! Ok so this is a new story I’m trying out…so tell me if u like it so I’ll continue or not !!!!!!!!
