“You suck?” Sam adds so very helpfully.
“Excuse me?” Jack growls. Oh shit.
“Out of all the insults and swear words you lot know you decide your brilliant response is ‘you suck’?”
“Yup”
“Okay then. Anyway we have things we need to discuss that are a little more important than Sam’s inability to settle down” Jack informs us all as he comes to sit down next to Matt, turning the TV off as he walks past.
“...not... freaking... gay” Sam mutters to himself bitterly but is ignored.
“We are currently without a Beta and we need to decide whether Luke is joining the pack.” Forgot about that... doesn’t that mean there’s going to be a massive fight?
“Jack?” Matt asks nervously.
“Yeah?”
“You do realise the second you open the position up formally that we won’t be able to be in the same room with each other without having fought out who’s dominant.” Guess they’re one good thing about being the baby of the Pack, I look over at Calum and he seems to be in agreement. We already know our place... and for now it’s at the bottom.
Jack’s face morphs into a frown “Shit!”
“Yeah maybe leave that till the end of this discussion” Mitch mutters looking at his hands.
“You know if Luke joins he’ll probably end up Beta... he’ll probably try to fight you for Alpha as well seeing as he has the mark.” Sam looks over at Jack meaningfully
“Yeah I was thinking about that earlier”
“We’re going to have to add him” Matt mutters distastefully.
“Why’s that?”
“We only have eight and since the balance has changed we need ten or more pack-members”
“Three more members....” Jack whispers lowly now like Matt resting his head in his hands ...Great another reason to stress him out.
“Maybe we should go back to the Tarhbeish.” Calum finally breaks the silence. The Tarhbeish.... shit the Tarhbeish! The memories come flooding back of that night, the night when everything changed. How could I have forgotten? The inscription once again flashes through my mind ‘To which we are joined’ could it possibly have anything to do with the pack, the link?
All at once everything falls into place as I remember what Erin said: “If you are ever in desperate need of answers this is where you should come if no one has them for you. In the legends this place is meant to be a connection with our ancestors who will help any werewolf in need” That’s it! I look up with a real smile on my face for the first time in weeks. “The Tarhbeish! We have to go to find the answers.” I exclaim, cutting across whatever Matt was saying.
They look at me in shock and then confusion as their eyes linger on my smile. “Seb?” Calum finally asks with a strange eagerness in his voice. I look over at him and his smile joins mine. “Shit Seb.” He adds excitedly.
“Calum” I grin and he leaps up from his chair and walks over, grabbing my outstretched fist and giving me our usual brotherly hug which hasn’t been the same in so long, I bat my head again his shoulder and he bats it back. ...I’ve still got to get used to this Werewolf behaviour.
“Don’t you dare ever do that again” he threatens into my shoulder before we both pull back and fist pound. He knew. That little shit knew, how the fuck can he know me so well to see right through me.
“How?”
“We know each other better than that.” He rolls his eyes before slumping back down in his seat.
“You ass” I grumble and he just chuckles at me.
I finally look around to find the others looking utterly confused still accept Matt who seems to be quite amused by our brotherly show of affection. I shrug at him and he chuckles exactly like Calum just did. Creepy brothers.
“What the hell was that?” Jordan finally demands loudly.
“Oh Calum and Seb’s bro-mance blossoming once again” Matt answers for us.
“We got that part the question is why?” Jack asks curiously looking between the two of us. I look at Calum warningly... if they figure out it’s because of remembering how to figure out why Erin left they’d flip. Calum nods.
“Seb has been moody lately.” Chase chimes
“So you’re telling me the chance of going to the Tarhbeish has him all normal again?” Jack questions.
“I want to look at the inscriptions again and you all said it, we need answers.” I plead my case hoping Jack will take the bait.
“Maybe it is a good idea.”
“Yeah.” Sam agrees. I look at them across the room and my heart jolts as I watch Matt’s face turn from curious to understanding as his eyes flicker from me to Calum to Jack. He knows.
