Chapter 7: Mosquito

Start from the beginning

“A benefit of its conscious is that virtually any vampire can fly them. Most of the navigational skills are taken care of by the ship, as it can perceive its surroundings and react to it on a very basic level. Only the executive processes, such as the planning of trajectories and strategic manoeuvres that need prediction over multiple steps need to be executed by the pilot.”

“Brilliant.” I responded.

“Thank you.” Gerald responded gleefully.

At the other end of the hangar I saw a flash of ginger disappearing in one of the crafts.

Zea

The mosquito hummed and lifted itself up in the air. After a few clumsy movements it seemed adapted to her and she flew around the hangar, making quick and jerky evasive and offensive manoeuvres. It halted in the air and its wings moved up and down quicker than the eye could keep track of to keep the craft in one position.

Okay that was pretty awesome.

After a few seconds it turned and flew quickly out of the hangar. We followed it outside and we studied its movements. It flew straight up at great speed until it was out of sight. We waited a few minutes and it returned from another angle, seemingly falling straight down. A few hundred meters above the ground it spread its wings and started flapping. Just a few meters away from us, it decelerated from a staggering speed to a halt just a few metres above ground level.

Gerald was glowing.

He looked at me, “Only the royals can do that manoeuvre, the G forces would kill any other vampire. We asked Zea to test it for us. Obviously, it worked!”

The craft turned so that I could look inside the cockpit.

Zea was wearing a black latex suit that hardly left anything to the imagination.

My, she filled out nice.

She was suspended in a transparent liquid and five tubes were hooked to her body, keeping her in place and making contact with her nervous system at the same time.

Her hair had partly grown back and floated like a halo around her face.

She took my breath away.

Then I noticed that she stared at us. Well at me actually.

She grinned and a mischievous look appeared on her face, one that I knew all too well.

She winked and I started running.

I took off in the direction of the hangar to take cover, but I heard Gerald shout “Not towards the new crafts, you idiot!” so I curved my trajectory towards the desert.

The hum of the mosquito was increasing intensity, indicating that it was quickly closing the distance between us.

I looked around and saw a Pylon to the far right. I increased my speed and curved towards it.

Laser impacts hit the ground behind me.

WTF, was she shooting at me?

I didn’t turn my head to see what she was doing, but instead used my other senses to estimate her angle and speed.

I felt the heat of the laser impact my buttock and groaned.

WTF she shot me! Unbelievable…

I pushed myself harder and I swung up the Pylon when I reached it.

Flying through the air I was fervently praying that my estimates were correct.

I flung myself high up in the air and bingo! Landed straight on her cockpit!

I dangled onto the protrusions next to the glass dome like a monkey on speed while she frantically tried to shake me off.

I heard Gerald and other vampires – apparently we had drawn quite a crowd - laughing in the distance.

I must have been blocking some kind of sensor or vital system with my body, because the craft halted and crashed down to the ground.

Well, that needs to be redesigned, I thought, still clinging onto the mosquito.

She opened the glass dome, throwing me to the dusty ground with a smack.

I coughed up some blood and tried to get up.

Before I was back on my feet to face her, Zea had jumped out and launched herself on top of me, hitting my jaw while she still was airborne.

My ears rang and I saw stars all over her pretty face. I did the only defence tactic that I could think of that might work on her.

I pulled her roughly down by her hair and kissed her.
