Chapter 16: What A Surprise

"Alright, shows over!" She heard the owner announced. "If you're not here to buy something, get out or face the wrath of my wet mop."

The small herd of people slowly dispersed, until the little girl was all alone. She finally saw the parking lot, and the car was nowhere to be seen. "Mom?" She croaked. It was as if time stopped and she already found out that she's all by herself. Without her parents, she's all alone in this town she never even heard of. 

She did the one thing she was good at.

She cried. 

"Mr. Pines!" The guy, who was now mopping the wooden floor, yelled. "The little girl is crying!"

The old man, or Mr. Pines, quickly came to her aid. He quickly recognized her as the child of the pregnant couple."Shh, shh, kid. Don't cry."

"I want my mommy and daddy!" She wailed. 

Mr. Pines scratched the back of his neck. "Uh, well- they had to- uh, go to the hospital so your little- you know what, nevermind."

"Why did they leave me?"

"They leave you here with me for the summer!" He tried to lighten up the mood and not let her worry about the current situation. 

"I-I don't even know who you are!" 

"You can call me Stan, kiddo. And from now on, I'm the one who will take care of you. But I'm not letting you live here for free..."

"What?" She didn't hear the last part. 

"No worries. You have to work for me, and in return I'll let you stay. Is it a deal?"

She nodded, not knowing what will happen in the future, but she could now trust this man over the monsters who just left her there without another thought. "Thank you, Stan."

"No problem. What's your name again?"

"Y/N."

"Okay, Y/N."

A month had passed after the encounter with the Gremloblin. Through all the week, you and Dipper hanged out with Mabel as usual, but you didn't let her know that the two of you are already together. She was too... unstable, and besides, Dipper had been the one who suggested it so you went along with it. She couldn't take a hint.

It was a typical day, like any other day and you found yourself in front of the TV, contemplating if you could watch some random documentary or not.

Dipper walked in without you noticing. "Something on your mind?" He offered, deciding to sit next to you on Stan's yellow chair.

You only sighed. "It's nothing of importance. Don't worry about it."

"Y/N..."

You sighed once more, feeling defeated. "I've been... thinking about... my parents." You turned to him, seeing him frowning. "I mean, I think about them everyday, but today..." You shook your head dejectedly, "Years ago, my parents left me here without saying goodbye or letting me know why, and- uh, it hurts." You pushed back the tears forming in your eyes. 

He sighed. "I'm so sorry this happened to you. You don't deserve to be left alone just like that."

"Yeah," you said lamely. "It sucks, but look on the bright side; if it weren't for my parents leaving me here in this town, I wouldn't have met Stan, Soos, Wendy, Mabel, and, you." You smiled.
