The sudden noise made me flinch, what was that? I spun around just to find a certain white-haired teen running full pelt towards my...Stomach? Yeah, I think that was it. Unlike what he thought was going happen, him tackle me to the ground, he just ran though me, rushing though my cape and collapsing on the ground behind me, I didn't mean it, really, but my body just reacted.
"W-Wha?"
I found his confused face funny, like god damn HILARIOUS! And before what I knew what I was doing, I was on the ground, clutching my stomach and emitting a strangely masculine laugh. I was getting a bunch of strange looks so I dusted my self off and set away leaving shocked faces on the two teens that I had left behind. I quickly made my way up the steps and passed even the man in the purple suit, as I passed him I realised that not only did he have no mouth but also that his moustache had seemed to substitute for it. As I passed him a look of faint surprise could be seen on his face, I gave him a small smile, After all thats what these people liked right? Smiles? As I neared the end I slowed down, the light. Oh, how I hated it! As I slowed, my pace soon came to a comfortable walk, after all it's not like I wasn't gonna make it. I had just stepped onto the green grass went I felt two hurricane winds shoot past me, it was the two teens I had passed earlier, I guess they had a race or something. As my cloak returned to the ground they started arguing.
"Ha ha! I won! I won!"
"No, you didn't! BAKA! I won!"
"No way! I won!"
They just stood there arguing and it was getting on my nerves. I walked calmly but intimidatingly up to them enlarging my figure to fit with the image. I was towering over them now.
"Shut it."
I turned and left, quickly regaining my previous figure as I sat down waiting for Mr.No-mouth. But, alas! I got no peace or quite, as the two teens quickly ran over and sat opposite me staring into my black eyes.
"So, you can speak? What's your name? And how did you do that?"
The questions filled my head, muddling me up. How could I explain that I didn't understand?
"Urr..."
"Gon, I think he's confused."
"I'm sorry? I do not-"
"Hey!"
I turned around, just to be met with the same bright ember eyes that had belonged to the clown from before.
"Yeah, you. Who are you?"
"Not sure,"
"What? How can you not know who you are?"
"Not sure,"
The clown seemed kinda familiar, somehow...Not that it really mattered anyway.
"Hmmm...Well I'll see you around, #1"
"#1? Is that your number? You were first?"
I hummed a yes and showed them the pin as proof. Earning a respectful glance from some of the others that had made it up here. Putting it back onto the outside of my cape, I realised that Mr.No-Mouth was up here as well, I made my way up to him.
"Excuse me, but where are we?"
"We are in the Numere Wetlands, also known as Swindlers' Swamp"
"Ah...Also I don't...Understand...most of this...Language,"
I was beginning to panic, what if the next test was a language one?
"Well, what language do you understand?"
"This one, do you know it?"
I wrote 'Hunter's Exam' in the ground, but instead of a face of understanding or maybe confusion. The look on his face was only fear and shock.
"W-Whats wrong?"
"Where did you learn this?"
"I'm not sure, I've known it since...forever."
He looked hurriedly between me and the writing, as though contemplating something, out of the corner of my eye I saw the weird clown from before eye my note in surprise.
"I will do my best to help you with the words in the hunters exam, but some things you will have no help for, understand?"
"Yes,"
"Good, Now then!" he addressed the whole group. "We are now in the Numare wetland, also known as the Swindlers Swamp. There are many dangerous creatures inside, all of which will try to make you their next meal. Follow me closely and stay focused, if you are tricked, you are as good as dead."
An idiot spoke up.
"But this is easy! After all you can't trick someone who knows they're gonna be tricked!"
"BE CAREFUL! GET AWAY FROM HIM! HE'S LYING!"
Everyone looked over to the new voice, as the one with it started to shout again.
"HE'S NOT AN EXAMINER! HE'S AN IMPOSTER! THE REAL EXAMINER IS ME!"
I was starting to get confused, the shouting, which I could not decode, was making my head hurt, and then just to make it even better everyone else started murmuring around some ugly monkey thing. Now my head felt like it was going to explode.
"Hey, Mr.No-mouth-"
"Satotz."
"What are they talking about?"
"The man has declared me an imposter."
I looked between the group, and Satotz, a look of disbelief clear on my face.
"But, he's wrong! That thing is obviously not even...whatever you call yourself."
I got a slightly smug, but mainly impressed look from Satotz.
"Thank you, I appreciate your opinion. And the word is Human."
"Ahh, thanks."
I just stood by him, after all not much I could do until he started moving. The two teens from earlier came over to me.
"Hey, what do think?"
It was the black haired one.
"He's wrong."
I pointed to the man who now had a small group of ~5 people with him.
"Hmm... how do you know?"
The white haired teen was eyeing me closely, his blue eyes scanning every inch of my now solid state.
"He's to weak to be an examiner. And he's not a human."
My point was proven when a total of 10 cards where thrown, 3 to Satotz, 3 to the 'man' 1 to the monkey thing with it and another 3 to me. I caught 6, including the ones thrown to Satotz, I didn't know what the clown had against Satotz, but I wasn't gonna lose my translator, not now anyway.
The group looked at me funny, wondering why I defended the real examiner. Then the clown spoke up.
"It seems, although blurred, that we have our answer, he is the real examiner. Although I don't have a clue who you are #1."
I just stood in front of Satotz and threw the cards back, landing them inside his shuffled deck. I was confused again, oh how I hated this feeling! Not knowing was going to be the death of me. I expected the argument to resume, but to my joy it didn't.
"I'll take both my 'test' and my defence as a compliment but #44, from now on any attack directed at an examiner, defender or not, will be considered insubordination, which will result in immediate disqualification, do I make my self clear?"
"Yes, yes."
As I wondered back to Satotz, I heard the two teens talking.
"Hey, Gon how long are you gonna stare at that thing?"
Oh, so his name was Gon.
