"Could use some early morning jog," he simply said, finally slowing down as he caught up with me.
I was going to lose my mind. "Why the fúck are you following me?"
"I'm takin' the bus, boo."
"But you have a fúcking car, Wardell!"
"Were you born being taught to curse instead of ABC's?" he asked with an amused smile. "Stop cussing. God is watching you."
"Just go back to your car. What is wrong with you?" I rolled my eyes and took big steps so I could rush away from him. I don't get his bipolar ass. Don't think I ever will.
Steph was persistent, though. He still followed me around carrying his black Under Armour bag that matched with his black snapback of the same brand.
"My tank is empty," he merely reasoned. "And gas is expensive."
I inwardly snort. "Bullshít."
"Look, we need to stop arguing, aight? We need to start being nice to each other," he said.
My ears couldn't believe what I was hearing. "You mean you want us to be friends?"
"Yup," he simply answered, popping the p.
I was so shocked that I couldn't say anything but just agree. "Whatever. Fine."
I spent the rest of the walk in silence, but Steph had such a loud mouth. He always wanted to converse and I gotta admit it, he wasn't really a bad company. Whenever we talk, I always seem to forget his reputation in school.
By the time we reached the bus stop, some of the students waiting looked at us in intrigue and I almost felt uncomfortable beside Wardell. But when I looked at him, he showed no response with how other people looked at us. In fact, he would even move closer to me.
That wasn't the end of it, though. When the bus came, I immediately climbed in and we received more stares as we walked on the aisle. It was like I was with a celebrity or something.
"Oh my god, he's so hot," I heard a girl whisper from the first row. They had heart eyes for him.
"Dude, what's up?" Now I heard a guy say. He and his friends were kissing Stephen's ass, hoping he'd sit with them.
I ignored all the murmurs we received until I reached a vacant seat at the back. It was on the left side and across it, Devin and D'Angelo sat with a teasing look.
"Looks like someone took the bus today," D'Angelo said to his team captain, raising his thick eyebrows up and down.
Devin smiled at me and there was something about the smiles they gave—almost like the three of them were talking telepathically.
I finally settled on my seat and Steph slid in beside me. I just didn't know what to feel. I didn't know if I should be happy or annoyed. He makes me feel a lot of things and I wasn't sure if I liked that.
"See?" Steph leaned back at the seat. "Hanging out with me makes you look cool."
