Chapter 16: Car Crash

Start from the beginning

I unlock my car but before I get in I hear him, "Good night, drive safe."

Those four words, make me smile like my crush had just told me I was beautiful. It was the fact that he said something. He told me good night and then told me to drive safe. It might not seem like a big thing but it shows that to a certain point, Alec might actually care. I smile before actually getting in and pulling out onto the main road.

Believe it or not, it takes me about thirty minutes to get home. The HQ is pretty far from my house so I usually get picked up but today I told them we'd meet them there. They were all already there anyway so I figured I might as well make it convenient for us all and just drive us out there. This worked out better than I thought because I'll be home by ten and could at least get eight hours of sleep for once in two months.

I heard my phone ringing loudly, Sophie's picture popped up on it and I grabbed it to answer it. The streets were basically deserted, there were no cars, no people, it felt like a ghost town here. I could basically swerve into all the lanes of traffic and not die. I loved it when the streets were deserted because I could basically drive recklessly and still live.

"Hello," I said and Sophie answered, laughing.

"You were so quick to leave that you forgot your wallet and book."

Oh shit I did.

"Fuck," I curse, which Sophie just laughs.

"Don't worry about it, I'll bring it to you tomorrow but I figured I should tell you before you start panicking."

"I wouldn't panic..."I say, dragging it out.

"Only freak out a bit," she confirms and I laugh.

"Pretty much."

"But yeah, anyway how far are you?"

"I'm on Park Haven so maybe five minutes out, red lights are a bitch man."

She shakes her head, "If there weren't cameras, pretty sure you'd run them."

I nod, "Probably."

Sophie says something but I don't pay attention to her. I pay more attention to the car who just got on the street. They're in the same lane as me but they're basically tailgating me which is getting on my nerves. There isn't any traffic so instead of tailgating they should pass me.

"Are you listening to me?" Sophie asks, dragging me back into reality.

"Yeah it's just this asshole is tailgating me when they can easily pass me. I mean I'm driving five over the speed limit so they shouldn't be tailgating so much."

"Be careful," Sophie warns, "People are crazy."

I see the car begin to slow down and as I drive, the car gets farther away. I breathe easily, "They're not tailgating me anymore."

I wish I didn't jinx it because as I said that, I felt a huge push forward as the car slams into the rear end of my car, hard and fast. They must've been going at least seventy. I feel a scream escape as my car spins out of control, I try my best to steer it in the right direction but soon enough, the car flips over once before stopping in the middle of the road. The airbag cushioned most of it but I did feel blood dripping from my forehead onto my nose. I also saw some broken glass in my arm. I rushed to take my seatbelt off quickly and get out the car. My phone was cracked and beyond repair.

I get out, look at the car whose headlights are shining right on me and get a bad feeling in my gut. These people purposely hit into me, they wanted to kill me or hurt me badly, but now I'm standing here, in the middle of the street basically saying 'you failed'. I'm going to die tonight.

The front doors open and two guys step out. One has a shaved head with a snake tattoo going from the top all the way to the back of his right ear. He has a sleeve tattoo of snakes and dragons and tigers while wearing a white tank top, saggy pants and worn out sneakers. He's muscular and the gun he has in his waistband is pretty intimidating.

The other guy wears a black hoodie, saggy pants and Vans while having barely any visible tattoos. He has a snake tattoo on his neck but other than that I don't see any other ones. He's tall and scrawny but intimidating because his height gives him a lot of power. I see the butt of his gun in the front pocket of his hoody and his dark eyes pierce my soul.

"Is this the girl you shot?" The bald guy asks the scrawny guy and the scrawny guy nods. Well we found the shooter. This night suddenly got really scary. The bald guy looks at me and sends a smirk my way, "You really should've picked better friends."

I know it was a dumb idea but I didn't have many options here. I began running but being as unfit as I am, I didn't get very far until one of them caught up to me. The scrawny guy grabs me and holds me tightly, not breaking his hold on my arms and drags me back to my smashed car and their untouched one. Seriously, their car barely looks crashed while my entire rear is crushed. I'm going to assume we're not going to be trading insurance information.

I scream, seeing as it was pretty useless because this place is basically abandoned but hey, got to test out all your options. No luck. I'm just glad I told Sophie where I am, maybe she can send help or something. Knowing what cavalry will arrive, I wasn't too worried about them taking down these two guys, I was more worried about them making it in time.

"Let me go!" I shout, wishing I had more upper body strength to break out of his grip but I feel a bruise forming where he's holding my arm.

"You see," the bald guy says, "Your friends should've known better than to pick an innocent girl, befriend her and bring her in this life. You're going to be an example to them about what happens when someone gets to close for comfort; not to mention, when they try to claim our territory."

"But it's theirs," I remark, regretting the words because the anger he sent my way made me want to sink into the ground. I can't help but stick up for them, they are my friends after all. If I am going to die, at least, they'll know my loyalties lie with them.

"Strong words for a girl who looks like she's going to cry."

Couldn't argue there.

"Man," the scrawny kid says, "Let's just hurry up and get this over with."

The bald guy smiles, removing his gun and pointing it my way, "My pleasure."

As lovely as this whole thing was, my heart stops as I see the headlights of another car show up, and four pistol barrels pointed at us. The bald guy smiles and laughs.

"Now this is a party."

If we make it out alive, then that's really a miracle.
