Saturday against Trey's wishes, I'd lied saying I was off to Keyanna's when I was actually off with Xavier. I had agreed to meet him for dinner despite the argument he and Trey had had this week. He was already seated when I walked up.
"Xavi?"
I spoke causing him to jump up and hug me.
"Danni I didn't know if you were gonna come."
He spoke nestling his head into my neck. We pulled away from each other and I looked into his eyes. He helped me sit down and we sat across from each other surrounded by silence. I'm sure he was unaware of what to say, and so was I.
"Sorry about Trey, I was in the bathroom when you text me."
"No it's fine, I can't blame him I mean hes the one you call your boyfriend."
"He is my boyfriend and the father of my child?"
"Oh really? Then why are you here with me?"
I got quiet, he'd made a great point.
"Xavier look, I think we're both just getting wrapped up into something that we know can't happen. It'd be wrong of me to keep leading you on like this when my heart is with Trey."
"And my heart is with you so what am I supposed to do?"
"Xavier I told you when we first started speaking that you and I could only be friends."
"Yeah but I thought that all changed when your so called boyfriend cheated on you."
Another point.
"And I'm not going to lie and say it didn't-"
"So why are you trying so hard to fight something that you and I both know is the truth?"
"Because it's not the truth Xavier you I will never be together, not now not ever."
As soon as those words left my mouth I wished I could take them back. Xavier had been a great friend to me, he was there during a tough time, but now things between he and I were taking a turn onto a road that I wasn't in a position to travel. I saw the anger and hurt grow in his eyes. He sat up placing his elbows on the table.
"So you just use me to comfort you, be there for you and then as soon as this dude comes back you just drop me? Like a bad fucking habit."
"Xavier I never meant for it to be like this."
"Whatever."
He shuffled through his pocket reaching for his wallet. He threw 3 crisp twenty dollar bills on the table.
"Get what you want, I'm out."
"Xavi don't leave like this."
He waived me off and I watched him walk away until he reached the door. He disappeared into the parking lot and I felt tears coming to my eyes. Just like clockwork, Trey called.
