"Don't worry. You'll be Jessica Steele-Styles before that happens." His lips tickled my skin when he spoke, but they were hardly the cause for my heart rate spiking once again.
"You think I'm a hyphenating type of girl?"
He lifted his head so his eyes leveled with mine. I raised an eyebrow.
"Yeah?" He answered, though it was definitely more of a question.
"W—"
My ringtone cut through our conversation. I began to turn to grab the phone from my nightstand, but Harry pulled me back into him.
"Don't you dare."
"I just wanna see who it is!"
"Are they more important than me?"
"I don't know yet. That's why I'm checking," I teased, causing him to narrow his eyes in warning.
I ended up letting the call go to voicemail, and instead, curl back up with Harry.
I might've fallen back asleep once I closed my eyes because when I opened them once again, Harry was on top of me, head on my chest, leg tangled in between mine, and his arm thrown across my waist. With my eyes still closed, I played with his hair.
My mind started to wander off again with memories.
I heard another knock at my door.
Like I'd been doing the last five times this had happened, I let them knock until eventually they just went away. I wasn't in the mood to face anybody, and I honestly didn't believe that I ever would be.
My parents were my life, and every achievement I'd made in my career had been for them. They were the reason I pushed on past every obstacle. I wanted to make them happy and proud.
What was the point now?
It'd been three minutes and whoever was at my door was still knocking.
Apparently a girl whose parents died a week ago couldn't get any privacy.
I sat up quick when I heard the door open.
"Uh...Jessy?"
Harry.
I hadn't showered in five days, eating wasn't really a priority, my hair was pushed away from my face in what was meant to be a bun but was actually a rat's nest, and never mind the bags under my eyes. Despite him of all people seeing me in this state, I actually couldn't care less.
I watched him come around the corner. As soon as his eyes locked on mine, an emotion crossed his eyes. I wanted to say that it was a mix of disappointment, or concern, or realization.
He held a yogurt parfait, spoon, and vitamin water in one hand and a couple protein bars in the other. He wore a black long sleeve and matching skinny jeans. A beanie covered his hair.
Something awakened in my chest seeing him here. It was the second time I'd seen him since my life blew up.
Right then, I'd felt more aware of my surroundings than I had in a few days.
