Maya takes me to an empty bench that was right in front of a window.
"Sit down and talk."
I did as she said because she didn't look that sweet, she didn't seem like she would just ask if I was okay. She looked more like a detective that would ask what I did on the Friday the 11th of October at 2:34 PM.
She took the seat next to me and looked me in the eyes.
"I want you to tell me whats been going on the past weeks, Riley."
I open my mouth but hesitated. "I-nothing, Maya, nothing has been going on."
She shook her head. "We don't lie to each other, Riley."
Oh, how I want to just let everything out but I felt like if I said the words out loud, it would be true. What I've been telling people all along, would turn to the opposite.
"Please, Riles. We can tell each other anything, right?" I nod at her and she smiles. "So, will you please, tell me?"
I let out a sigh and closed my eyes. "Okay, so..." I tell her everything. From what happened at Charlie's party to the date he took me on and about the fight we had and how I apologized for judging him. I told her how he called me over for dinner at Zay's place and how he told Mrs. Babineaux that we are together. And I told her about what happened over at his place when I had to give him all the school work he had missed. I told her everything, from the beginning to the last time I saw him.
But I kept one thing out. One thing I myself needed to sort out on my own.
When I was done rambling I looked at a shocked Maya in front of me. Her its were partly open and she was blinking with her eyes.
"So, that's what's been going on." I say, making a clicking noise at the end.
"Wow," She finally let out something and took a breath. "That's....wow, Riles, I don't...I don't.." She lifted her shoulders and opened her mouth and closed it, not knowing what to say.
"It's okay," I laugh. "You...let it all sink in before you say some-"
"He kissed you?!" She whisper-shouted, her eyes glued to the wall.
I rolled my eyes and heaved a sigh. "Yes, May-"
"And he told Zay's mom that you two were dating?!" I nod at her and when I was about to say something, she beat me to it. "That is...it's...it's insane! Like, wow!"
Her eyes went from the bench to meet mine and she still had that shocked look in them. "Oh my God, Riles."
"What?" I sighed.
"He hasn't talked to you ever since?" She asked, sounding worried.
I opened my mouth but before answering her, it hit me again. He hasn't tried to find me and talk about what happened. Why?
I shook my head and look her in the eyes. "...no. No, h-he hasn't."
She gave me a frown and scooted closer to me, pulling me in for a tight side hug. I put my arm around her and leaned my head towards hers.
"It's okay, Riles." She cooed. "Maybe he just....is as confused about it as you are."
"I...uhm...I'm not confused, Maya." I let out a short snort and smiled, sitting back up straight. "What is there to be confused about?"
Maya looked at me like I had grown two heads and was furrowing her eyebrows. "The kiss, Riley. That's one of the things you should be confused about right now."
