“I mean, are you sore? Do you hurt anywhere?”
Sierra frowned. Did something happen last night that should have made her sore? Tristan slid his hand up her thigh and she felt his touch on her bare skin. She wasn’t wearing pants. Why didn’t she notice that before?
“You don’t remember what happened, do you?”
She didn’t remember, but she had a really good idea what Tristan was hinting at. She sat up in the bed and felt the room spin. Then her head pounded. No way. They didn’t. She wouldn’t. Oh my God, how much did she have to drink?
“Tristan … please, God … please tell me that you’re joking.”
He sat up with her and brushed her hair from her face. He looked apologetic.
“You regret it?” he asked. “I’m sorry. I thought this was what you wanted.”
“I did … I mean I do … I just can’t believe … ” she groaned as words failed her. What could she possibly say? She lost her virginity at a house party, in Tia’s bed, with Tristan, and she didn’t even remember it. Did she like it? Did they use protection? Did it hurt?
Suddenly Tristan’s face transformed, revealing a wide smile and he chuckled softly.
“You make it too easy to tease you, sweetheart. I was joking. I’m sorry, but I couldn’t resist.”
She buried her face between her knees and she breathed a sigh of relief. He was messing with her. She was too relieved to be angry.
“So nothing happened?” she asked.
“No, a lot of things happened. A lot of amazing wonderful things,” he said with a wicked glint in his eye that caused Sierra to blush. “But none of them involved taking advantage of my super drunk girlfriend.”
Girlfriend.
Sierra replayed the word in her head over and over. It still didn’t seem real. But it felt amazing to hear him say it. It was not easy getting to this point.
“So the girlfriend part really happened? I didn’t imagine it?”
“That was real. You’re stuck with me.”
He wrapped his arms around her and kissed the top of her head and Sierra felt peace like she’s never known. If he thought she felt “stuck” with him, he had another thing coming. She felt the opposite. She was free, happy. No more hiding. No more pretending. It was the best feeling in the world.
She was still very aware that her pants were missing and was overcome with curiosity. Not knowing what actually happened was killing her.
“So just how far did things get last night?” she asked.
“Worried? Don’t be. After we got on the bed and I kissed you, you helped me take my shirt off, told me you loved me and passed out. I didn’t even get to second base,” he sulked.
Did he do that on purpose? He just glossed over the most important part of his story. She told him she loved him? He probably thought she didn’t mean it. And maybe that was best for now. She didn’t want to scare him so let him think it was just the silly ramblings of a drunk girl.
“What happened to my pants?”
He gave her a knowing smile. “I couldn’t wake you up, so I took your pants off and tucked you in. I found Tia and asked her if it was cool if I spent the night. She gave me the green light so I came back here and climbed in with you.”
“That’s it?”
“You sound disappointed,” he remarked.
She was. A little.
