His Butler, Fluent (part 2)

Start from the beginning

The streets were full of people, some of whom I recognized from my experiences with Ciel. They were all busy rebuilding or helping in some way.

"Hey, bring that over there!"

"Everyone form a queue! There's still more water left!"

The little boy from the investigation of the murder that included a missing document from the Queen stepped up in line to Prince Soma and Agni.

"Here, everybody gets two", Soma told him as he handed the boy two curry buns.

"What is it?", the boy asked as he took them and looked at them.

"Curry bread", Agni replied. "You don't have to stand still to eat it, and most of all, it's a balm to the soul."

"It's really good", Hana added with a smile. She was helping Soma and Agni.

"Eat up, and smile!", Soma said to the boy. The boy smiled and nodded.

"Right! Thanks!", he said before running off with a wave.

Later that day, I went to the monument Pluto had been on and heard the Queen's speech. Or rather, the fake Queen's speech.

"And yet, perhaps this was God's way of testing our spirits", she continued on. She removed the veil from her face to reveal an older woman with grey hair and blue-ish eyes. She looked at the people and smiled. "We stood firm in the face of disaster, and used our very sorrows as fuel to rise up again. As we greet the new century, a new British Empire is being born!" They cheered and applauded her in response, believing she was the true queen. They had no reason to believe otherwise or even suspect that she wasn't. Arthur stood not too far from where I stood.

"A false Queen standing in the ashes of London...", he mumbled to himself.

"Commissioner?", a young man behind him asked.

"There's no difference between real and fake if enough people believe", Arthur continued. He glared ahead. "That's what he didn't understand." He took the cigar from his mouth and dropped it on the stone ground. "We're going." He turned to the young man.

"Yes, Sir!", the young man said. And they did just that.

Afterwards, I took a walk through the countryside by the river. It was peaceful and quiet, but my heart ached. Sorrow kept its grip tight and unrelenting. I sat down in a small patch of blue flowers. They were a beautiful blue and they immediately reminded me of Ciel. His eyes, his ring... I plucked a few flowers and looked at them for a moment before I picked out the best one and did an old trick I had learned from my mother at a very young age. I twisted the stem strategically until the flower had become the jewel of a ring made of its stem. A smiled a little at the old trick my mother had taught me, but my smile soon faded.

I never got to show Ciel that trick... Mother... is this what you meant in that dream? Is this the awful event you were talking about, that you wanted me to be strong through?

In my state of thought, a gust of wind suddenly blew and the ring fell into the river and began to float downstream. I sighed. There were more flowers to use. I could make as many as I wanted to. But why?

Ciel... I'll never love another person the way I love you. I'll never say I "loved" you, though. Because I'll never stop loving you, so there's no need to use past tense. It will forever be that I love you. And no one else, Ciel Phantomhive....

I looked out at the water and then at the blue flowers before more tears began to slip down my cheeks in sorrow.
