It was barely six in the morning, the sun was just beginning to rise in the sky, to boil Delhi. Yes, Summer has set in and I was still getting used to it.
Summer in Shimla used to be moderately warm, I remember I used to eagerly wait for it, to feel the warmth of the sun but here in Delhi. My god, it's almost dreadful. I never thought I would witness such muggy, scorching days but here I was.
My eyes moved downwards to the watchman who was sipping on his chai while reading a newspaper. Mr. Agarwal and his friend looked ready to start their morning walk. Birds chirping, children waiting for their school buses, everyone looked like they were doing something and me? Well, I've been standing out on the balcony since an hour ago because I couldn't sleep.
My in-laws were finally gone. Thank god! Last two days have been nothing but torturous to me. I was forced to be around the person I despise most. My husband. After that night, one thing I was certain about that, I was done.
Done with him. And his bullsh*t.
I was showing the gratitude of being the nice Bahu my parents told me to, but I guess some people just do not deserve better.
A throat cleared behind me and I wasn't even startled. Guess, I was used to his presence now.
But not him- I thought.
Taking a deep breath, I looked up in the sky.
"Kanan."
This time, I did turn around but only to walk past him, inside the house towards the kitchen.
Now, you must be thinking, silent treatment, huh! But no, it wasn't. It was, 'I-don't-even-care-enough-to-give-you-silent-treatment, treatment.
"Kanan."
I heard him again as I poured milk into the vessel. What does he want now? Can't he just leave me alone already! He hasn't even apologized, not that I was expecting.
My motions stopped and my eyes followed his appearance of sweatpants and a gray t-shirt. He was giving me a blank stare that I was pretty sure matched mine.
"Uh, these..." He started.
Ignoring him, I added sugar and tea into the boiling vessel of milk.
"These arrived from your parents. "
My eyes snapped up to him than to the envelope in his hand. Why would my parents send me an envelope? What was in it? Why didn't they called me before sending whatever they sent?
I rushed towards him before stopping at a decent distance away from him. We stared at each other for a brief moment before he opened his mouth to say something but I stopped him by snatching the envelope out of his hand.
"Easy." He said soothingly.
Ignoring him, I scanned the envelope and noted the address was of my hometown.
I don't understand. Why would they send an envelope to me? Frowning, I opened the envelope but my frown darkened when I saw the jet Airways logo. My jaw dropped when I noted Delhi to Bali.
There they were. Two tickets to Bali. I stared at them in pure horror and then my eyes moved to Jay who looked like a picture of calm.
"What is this?" I asked, a bit furious.
"I believe, you should be asking that to your parents." He answered calmly.
This man can't be trusted. I rushed back to the living room to get my cell phone. I called my mother and she finally picked up on the fourth ring.
