I got out of the shower and dried myself. I got dressed. I had randomly chose my shirt that hangs off the shoulder; it has a Walmart smiley face on it. My pants were a really old pair that had holes in them. I loved these jeans; I use to wear them so much that holes just started to form. I walked back to my room.
I opened my closet and went to reach for a sweatshirt. I accidentally knocked it off the hanger. Behind it was my leather jacket. The leather jacket that my dad had given me. He use to ride motorcycles and I would ride with him. I was the son he never had. Well a more feminine son. Eventually he just got me a jacket of my own. It even says my name on the back.
The jacket was comforting in my hands. It still smelled like my dad, somehow the cigaretts hadn't got to it yet. It was warm when I put it on. It still has all of its value and it still looks nice. I totally forgot about my jacket. Maybe it’s because my mom would kill me if I ever wore it in front of her. She loved my dad; now she tries to get rid of anything that reminds her of him. Maybe that’s why she hates me so much. I look a lot like Dad; and I was the closest one to him. Except for Mom, of course.
I tiptoed to the door where I found Mom’s shopping list. I sighed and shoved it into my jacket pocket. I slipped on my shoes and walked to the side of the house. My bike was propped against the house. It was in pretty good shape; no doubt that it will get me to the grocery store.
I didn’t think about anything as I rode to the grocery store. I hid my bike in some bushes and then walked into the store. No one was really in the store. A few people here and there, nothing big. Good thing too. I really don’t like it when stores are filled with people.
I walked down the aisles getting all the food I was told to. I hope I have enough money to get all of it. I don’t know what I’ll do if I don’t have enough money. Well I know my mom will have something to say. Which makes me think; why haven’t I run away before? The bigger question is where would I run away to?
I turned the corner of an aisle and stopped dead in my tracks. Will was standing towards the end looking at pasta. There was a little girl standing by his side and an older man also looking at pasta. I tried to turn around with my cart, but it proved too difficult. I knocked something over and swore. They all looked at me and Will smirked. He walked over to me and started to pick up the display I knocked over.
“Out grocery shopping for your family?”
“No, I’m going to eat all this food by myself,” I said sarcastically.
“Right,” Will said with fake laughter.
“Will, we have to go.” The man said. “Just pick up the spaghetti. We’re going to be late for making dinner.”
“Okay, Dad, I’ll be right there,” he said to his dad. He turned back to me, “Sorry, I have to go.”
I waved goodbye and then continued with my shopping. Who sets a tight schedule for dinner? Must be something important. Wait a minute, why do I even care? I don’t care. Who am I kidding I’m curious.
I finished getting the groceries and I walked to the check-out. Will and his family were just making it too. Yeah, they’re going to be late. A young guy started to ring up my groceries. The total was $110.66 dollars. I only have a hundred! Crap, what am I going to do. Since when did I even have a hundred dollars?
“Is there a problem, Miss?”
“I’m a little short,” I said sheepishly.
“Do you need help paying, Brenna?” Will was right behind me.
“I need ten bucks and 66 cents.”
“Well I don't have any deer to give you, but I do have ten dollars.” He handed the guy behind the counter ten dollars and change. I handed him the hundred I had.
