chapter 11: Noctuary

Start from the beginning

"Okay, Enoch," Millard laughed. Enoch's face was flushing slightly and I laughed to myself. "E-Enoch got his head," Millard continuously interrupted himself in fits of giggles. "Enoch got his head stuck in one of Claire's dollhouses!"

The table erupted with laughter at the memory. Enoch had his arms crossed and was pouting like an upset child.

"That's not even the best part!" Hugh laughed. "He wasn't even with Claire at the time!"

"Ugh. I was trying to animate one of the dolls," Enoch said bitterly.

"Yeah, and you just accidentally jammed your head into the bright pink house!" Horace screeched in laughter. Screeched.

My stomach was aching with punches of hilarity. My ribs stuck my muscles and my lungs were sore from contraction.

"I-I can't breathe," I laughed, stuttering my words.

Enoch looked at me and I could see the struggle on his face. . .He was trying not to laugh.

"You're gonna laughhh," I teased.

He twisted his mouth awkwardly and pursed his lips. I could see his chest sink in, trying to swallow a laugh.

He attempted to distract himself by drinking some water, but I continued my teasing.

"EEEEnocchhhh," I sung poking his cheek that was now filled with water.

He looked at me with his cheeks plumped out. I began laughing at the struggle plastered on his face. It was unbelievably funny; he looked like an angry chipmunk.

The kids were howling with laughter, even Miss Peregrine was enjoying herself.

Enoch looked away from me and tried to swallow his water.

"Don't spit it out."

He pursed his lips.

"Don't do it," I laughed.

His chest sucked in once more.

"Don't spit out that water!"

He lost it. With a huge burst of laughter, water shot from his nose and mouth all over the dining table.

The children were uncontrollable.

I screamed with laughter. Really, screamed. If someone was outside they probably would think I was being murdered.

Enoch wiped his face on his shirt sleeve and shook his head at me with a twisted smirk.

"You're going to pay."

"Oh no!" I laughed hysterically. The children were roaring.

Enoch began laughing. Enoch was laughing. As the kids began to settle down I noticed the looks on their faces. They were astounded, and Miss Peregrine had her eyebrows raised.

"Mr. O'Connor, I don't believe I have ever seen you laugh before," the headmistress stated with a smile.

Enoch looked down at his hands, smirking, and then looked at me with a playful death stare.
