"I have a big chemistry test tomorrow." I said. I liked taking science courses, they were in case I ever decide to change my major to like engineering or biology. I liked science but I rather become a lawyer. Maybe I can minor in a science major.
"Oh come on Kris. Just one party. That's all I ask. How about Blake's next weekend? You would have sent in your Harvard application by then." She said. I sighed.
All my college applications were due at the end of September. That's in a week. I already sent in my applications for Coronell, Yale, Colombia, Princeton, and Brown. I was only applying to six of the ivy league schools. Dartmouth and University of Pennsylvania just didn't feel like the right schools for me.
I just couldn't find it in me to send in Harvard's. I was scared. All my hard work was coming down to this one application. There won't be anything else for me to do once it's sent. It's the moment in my life I had been striving for. I just wasn't ready for it all to quickly end.
"M to K. You there?" Morgan said into the phone. I focused in to the conversation.
"Huh? Yeah. Sorry. Nervous jitters." I said. She knows how scared I am to not get into my dream school. It's my entire life. It all I have ever worked for. I was not ready for rejection.
"Krissy. You'll get in. I know you will. Hell, the whole entire school knows. I mean you are the top of our class, securing your spot for Valedictorian, and the only one applying at these top schools. You'll get in." She assured me. I blew a breath out.
"You're right. Thanks Morgan. You're my best friend. I should trust you. Okay, so what were you saying before my mind crashed?" I asked. I took a deep breath. There was nothing to be scared of. I was a shoe in for all the schools. I was going to get in. There was no reason to be nervous. I had to be confident.
"Party? Blake's party?" She reminded me. I nodded. She was going to Blake's party. I looked at my notebook on my desk.
"Oh right. Yeah sure. Whatever." I said. I still had to finish my application. I was tweaking my essay here and there. I just didn't feel like it was perfect. Every time I read it, I found something wrong. Then I would reread it and the never ending cycle would begin.
"You'll go?" She asked. I heard excitement in her voice. Go where?
"Hmm. Yeah." I said ignoring whatever she just said. She was probably excited about going to Blake's. I grabbed my notebook and started to fix my essay.
I know that it's supposed to be written online and sent in through email, but I like writing it on paper first. It's easier to correct plus I like seeing the red lines on it. Maybe I should become an editor instead of a lawyer. I do like writing and reading stories. It would definitely be one of my top jobs.
Nah, i'm going into law and being the number one lawyer. Everyone will be begging for me to take their case. This is my dream.
"No backing out." Morgan sang into the phone. I dropped my pencil down, focusing on what she just said.
"Huh?" I asked. Did I just agree to something? What was she talking about again? I need to stop getting distracted. I think I slightly have ADD, but not enough to be diagnosed. It's just a one time thing that occurs here and there.
"You just agreed to go to Blake's party with me next weekend." She sang into the phone. I could feel her smirk radiating through it. I sighed. There was no way of getting out of this one. Maybe it's a good thing. It's a sign. I should go and act like a teenager for once.
