Chapter 4: The Truth

Start from the beginning

"Well now that I know, I can leave." I said turning around.

"Wait!" He said reaching for my wrist. I felt a spark ignite. That was weird. I tried to wiggle out of his hold. He tightened it.

"What?" I asked him. He looked around, looking nervous.

"Don't go. Let's talk." He said. He let go of my wrist. "Let's go outside."

I contemplated my decision. I had two choices here. I could leave and not look back or I could stay and talk. When was I ever going to hear Blake Tyler ask me to talk again. He thinks i'm Kate. But if I do stay, maybe he'll discover that i'm Krissy. I decided against the latter. You only live once, right?

"Okay." I said. He grabbed my hand, intertwining our fingers together, and pulled me out to the backyard. I ignored the sparks that coursed through me as I took in my surroundings.

The backyard was as big as the house. There was a patio with a barbecue area, a gigantic pool with a slide and diving board, a connecting jacuzzi in the corner, a sand volleyball court father in the corner, and a big patch of grass where there were some guys playing football.

Some girls were lounging around the pool while others were splashing in it. A few others were playing sand volleyball. It surprisingly wasn't as packed as inside the house. But then again, it is is the end of fall.

Blake led me to the corner near the grass. There was a few lawn chairs there. We sat down. I looked around not seeing anyone I knew. I was grateful for that. Thank god no one knew me either.

"Kate." Blake said. I turned to look at him. His smile faltered when I looked into his deep blue eyes. We stared into each other's eyes until I broke the connection, looking down at his nose.

"Yeah?" I asked. I watched his adam's apple bop up and down before replying.

"Let's play 20 questions." He suggested. I shrugged. That was not what I was expecting.

"Sure." I said. I knew he was going to ask things that might lead to him finding out i'm truly Krissy. But something in his look, in his features, made me want to tell him everything. I just didn't know why.

"Where are you from?" He asked.

"I'm originally born in Philadelphia but my family moved to Hartford when I was three. Lived here my whole life." I told him. It was true.

My family moved when my dad lost his job. We moved closer to my grandparents and have been near them since. They have helped us in a time of need, which has sadly happened a lot more than we hoped.

My grandparents are on the wealthier side of things. They practically own all of Hartford. My grandpa runs some insurance company that is worldwide. My grandma just stays home. They're both graduates of Yale University. They don't know that i'm trying to go to Harvard. I'm sure they'll want to pay for it all. I don't want them to and neither do my parents.

My mom doesn't get along with her parents. She got pregnant with me when she was a senior in high school. She married dad when they graduated. Her parents never approved of him or their relationship which is why we aren't wealthy like them. Mom and dad rather work hard for what they have, than let our grandparents give them everything. I agree with them too. My grandparents are manipulative and only do things for their own benefit, not caring about the expense of others.
