Chapter 4: The Truth

Start from the beginning

"Who?" He asked. He raised an eyebrow, waiting for me to answer.

"My best friend Miranda." I said. I'd have to remember that that was her name. Miranda. Morgan's name is now Miranda.

"Does she go to my high school? Wait, do you go to my high school?" He asked. I shook my head. He looked disappointed.

"We live in the next town over. Actually, I should probably go find her. It's getting late and we have a long day tomorrow." I said getting up from the lawn chair. I felt his hand on my wrist, stopping me. My skin burned at his touch.

"When can I see you again?" He asked. His voice was full of hope and sincerity. I shrugged. I didn't know if I was ever going to see him again. I was only at this party to figure out what happened the previous week. I didn't have a reason to be Kate. But something in me was telling me to continue this façade.

I could finally be the teenager i'd always wanted. I wouldn't be judged. I would be loved. People would accept me. Who knew that makeup and clothes could change you into something entirely new.

"I don't know Blake." I said honestly. I looked into his deep blue eyes, seeing sadness in them again. "Soon, I hope."

"Really?" He asked. His excitement radiated onto me. I felt myself smile at his reaction.

"You have my number, use it." I said. I smiled at him. His matching mine. His dimples popped out.

"I will babe. See you soon." He said letting go of my wrist. I smiled, nodding. I then did the unthinkable: I kissed his cheek. My lips burned when we separated.

"Bye Blake." I said. I turned around, leaving him. I ignored the empty feeling in my chest as I looked for Morgan.

Pushing through the crowd of people, I looked for the tall brunette. Since it was past midnight, people were now lingering around. Most of them were all drunk and would not remember tonight. I walked into the kitchen to see her sitting on the counter. She looked sober while holding a bottle of water. She smiled when she saw me walk in. She jumped off, being careful not to break a heel.

"So, how was lover boy?" She smirked. I rolled my eyes, fighting the smile wanting to be on my face.

"I'll tell you in the car. Let's go." I said. She nodded, fishing for her keys from her back pocket. We walked through the drunk teenagers to the front door. we stepped out, inhaling the clean air. The driveway was now empty and the street scarce with cars.

"So, what happened?" Morgan asked once we were safely in her car. I let out a long sigh before replaying everything to her.

"He wants to hangout." I said at the end. Morgan slammed on her breaks. I looked out the windshield, seeing a bright red light in front of us. What a coincidence.

"Are you going to?" She asked. I bit my bottom lip, shrugging. I don't know if I want to. It could be bad news. I don't want to risk him finding out about my true identity. I liked being able to be carefree without anyone judging me.

"I don't know Morg. Maybe he'll forget this whole night." I said sighing. I knew I wouldn't.

"Maybe. Come on. Let's sleep off this night. We'll go to IHOP in the morning." Morgan said parking her car. I looked up seeing her mansion of a house. The lights were all off. Her parents would be fast asleep, knowing her daughter was okay. I opened the car door, following Morgan into her house.

We walked up the numerous stairs before I chucked her heels into the back of her closet. I stripped out of the dress into a big t-shirt and shorts. I didn't bother to take off my makeup. It'd be the last time i'd wear it.

I walked over to her king sized bed, getting in. I snuggled into her memory foam pillows, letting my eyes close and my body relax. I started to drift into sleep when I heard my phone buzz. I opened my eyes to see it moving on the night stand next to my head. I turned to see Morgan passed out next to me. I reached for my phone seeing a text from Blake.

goodnight baby girl. sweet dreams of me(;

I silently chuckled. Blake just had to add that last part in. I locked my phone, putting it back on the night stand. I snuggled back into the comforter, closing my eyes. I fell asleep with a huge smile on my face.
