"um, blue. i guess. i don't really know why." tyler said, but his quick glance to josh's hair implied otherwise. "okay. um, what about you?"
"pink," josh smiled, "i think that's what my next hair color's gonna be."
"oh. that's cool. fuck gender roles."
josh smiled before tyler continued.
"my turn, why'd you dye your hair in the first place?"
"why not? i mean, it's just gonna fall out one day anyway."
"yeah, but not for a while. right?"
the same nagging voice appeared in tyler's head again. something is wrong.
josh shrugged. "um, who knows? life is unpredictable."
an all-too-familiar voice, blurry's voice, popped into tyler's head. "i told you, he's hiding something. who says stuff like that without an ulterior meaning?"
tyler shut his eyes, "shut up," he mumbled, too quiet for josh to hear.
"yeah," tyler said audibly this time, turning to josh and smiling, "like how i never expected someone with blue hair to steal my coconut smoothie one day, but here we are."
josh laughed, "hey, it all turned out well!" he exclaimed, pressing a kiss to tyler's forehead.
tyler smiled, but it wasn't a real smile. suspicion was slowly eating away at him.
"oh, so you're finally listening to me!" blurry said.
tyler took a deep breath and squeezed his eyes shut.
"stop." he whispered.
"kay, so, tyler," josh said as his boyfriend went on ignoring the voice in his head.
"yeah?"
"next question, favorite animal?"
tyler looked up at the ceiling, pondering the answer. "dog."
josh nearly pushed him off the couch.
"what?!" tyler giggled.
"cats are the bomb! what do you mean you like dogs?" josh exclaimed.
tyler only laughed again, "what do you mean you like cats?"
"they're fluffy and cute and-"
"so are dogs!"
"you look like a dog..." josh mumbled, still smiling.
"yeah?"
"yep."
"fine, fine, dogs down, cats up."
"finally you've come to your senses," josh smiled, squinting his eyes in a way that only made tyler smile more.
"alright, dude, would you rather fight one horse sized duck, or 100 duck sized horses?"
"that's not a valid question!" josh argued.
"is too! now answer."
"fine, i'll say one horse sized duck. all you have to do is feed it some bread!"
"you're gonna need a lot of bread, dude."
"i'll steal it, it'll be fine," josh laughed, "you?"
"i'm going to go with 100 duck-sized horses. i feel like you could just kick them across a field. i imagine a lot of showdowns going on."
"showdowns?" josh chuckled.
"totally."
tyler sat up, crossing his legs in a criss-cross way, holding his feet. he could perfectly see josh with the lighting from the window behind him.
