4. If You Can't You Still Might

Start from the beginning

"So it has nothing to do with the plumbing?" he questions as I let out a sigh.

"No" I confess, "when you're fighting with your boyfriend and he's asleep the last thing you want is to wake him up" I add as he nods in understanding.

"You didn't have to tell me that" he says softly making me smile lightly as I glance up at him.

"I wanted to" I admit as my heart jumps. "I kinda like talking to you, despite how odd you acted at Starbucks" I add making him chuckle.

"I wasn't odd" he argues. "I was making conversation."

"By asking personal questions" I argue back as he shakes his head while we start to walk down the hall towards class.

"I asked you where you were going to school. That's not that personal. Most people offer that information up by wearing a sweatshirt."

"But I wasn't wearing a sweatshirt" I smirk making him laugh.

"Alright fine" he gives, "I shouldn't have asked."

"Why did you?" I ask as we reach the classroom, luckily it's completely empty so we can continue our conversation.

"Maybe I was hoping you'd be in my class" he admits as I lean against his desk while he puts his stuff away.

"Why?" I ask as he comes to stand in front of me, crossing my arms over my chest.

"I don't know" he admits. "Maybe I just like talking to you too" he adds with a smile making my heart flutter. This was wrong, so very wrong. There were so many reasons why I shouldn't feel like this but I did, there was something about him that was so different from any other guy I've liked.

"Josh. Ms. Hunter. What are you both doing here so early?" my professor asks as he walks into the room. Josh takes a step back from me and runs his fingers through his hair as he looks up at James.

"We were both working out and we decided to walk together to class" he answers quickly. "Is there anything you need me to do before class?"

"Laptop carts, we're researching today. Could you and Maya go retrieve them?" he asks as I glance up at Josh.

"Sure" I smile as I start to head out the door. Josh catches up to me and we fall into step together. "Why'd you lie?" I ask curiously as he shrugs.

"Because I figure you don't want your professor to know that you're fighting with your boyfriend" he laughs as I smile, nodding in agreement.

"Well thank you" I smile as we head into the library. We walk over to the carts and each grab the handle of one. "You know we could make this interesting" I smirk as he looks at me amused.

"And how would we do that blondie?" he teases making my mouth drop open as a laugh escapes my lips.

"Blondie? Really?"

"You are blonde" he points out with a smile. "But what exactly do you have in mind?"

"A race" I smirk making a grin spread across his lips.

"A race? Oh you are so on" he replies, "on the count of three. One."

"Two" I smile as I tighten my grip on the handle.

"Three" he exclaims and with that we take off. We make it almost all the way to class before we literally bump into someone.

"Really Maya?" Riley exclaims as she holds her hip where I just hit her on accident. "Josh?" she asks in confusion as she looks at our TA. "What the hell are you guys doing?"
