Chapter 17: Suit and Jacket

"Guys I asked Debby to come to our school's prom and she said yes! We're going to have to go dress shopping really soon." Jenna said to Tyler as they sat at the lunch table.

"Wow that was quick." Tyler said picking at his food.

"You can come with us. You have to pick out a tux." Jenna said watching Tyler play with his food.

"Josh hasn't asked me yet." Tyler said not realizing how much it bothered him until now. He had never even wanted to go up until this point, but hearing about how much fun Jenna was having with it he suddenly realized how much he wanted to go.

"Hey baby." Josh said sitting down next to Tyler, kissing him on the cheek.

"I was just telling Tyler that me and Debby were going to prom." Jenna said staring at Josh in the eyes hoping he would get the message.

But Josh was kinda dumb sometimes.

"Oh that's cool, what color dress are you wearing?" Josh asked before taking the apple off of Tyler's tray and biting into it. Tyler just shook his head a bit as he got up and threw his tray away, walking out of the cafeteria.

Jenna scowled at Josh and he looked at her while chewing on his apple. "What'd I do?"

"Tyler you've been giving me the silent treatment all day what's going on?" Josh said as he turned into the driveway. Tyler just unbuckled his seatbelt and got out of the car. Josh scowled and followed after him.

Kelly saw Tyler storm up the stairs and looked at a confused Josh who just watched after him.

"Trouble?" Kelly said patting a seat beside her on the sofa. Josh nodded and went over to sit next to her.

"I don't know what happened, we were talking about Jenna taking Debby to prom and then suddenly he got upset and walked out." Josh said crossing his arms and slumping down on the sofa.

"Have you asked him to go yet?" Kelly asked turning the television down and looking at an upset Josh.

"No, I didn't think he'd wanna go." Josh said looking back at her confused. "Does he?"

Kelly smiled and put a hand on Josh's knee reassuringly. "I think he does. Don't tell him I told you this, but he used to fantasize about going to his senior prom in middle school." She whispered and Josh who smiled. Of course Tyler had, that was just like him.

Josh got up and Kelly took his hand. "Thank you for taking good care of him Josh." She said giving Josh's hand a small squeeze.

"It's been my pleasure Mrs. Joseph." Josh smiled before going upstairs to Tyler's room. He knocked softly and heard Tyler say come in.

Tyler was sitting on his bed writing in his notebook, ink smudged on his fingertips. Josh sat next to him as Tyler closed his music notebook, licking the ink off his fingers and wiping them on his pants.

"What's up?" Tyler said not looking at Josh, rubbing his fingers harder on his jeans to get the ink off.

"What's your thoughts on prom?" Josh asked and Tyler just shrugged. "Really?"

"I mean I don't know." Tyler said finally looking at Josh, some ink stained on his lips.

Josh chuckled and took Tyler's hand. "Wanna go to prom with me?" He said looking into Tyler's eyes.

"No." Tyler said flatly. Josh creased his eyebrows and blinked at bit.

"What? Why not?" Josh said a little offended after going through all this just to have Tyler tell him no.
