We hired 3 extra people to help out in the kitchen. Two would be with Claire and the other would be with me handling the desserts.
Within moments, we heard the main door open and the mumbling of people. Bree was welcoming them with nana. I knew within moments there would be receipts sliding through the hole. Taking deep breaths, I calmed myself down. Adrenaline was pumping through me and there was nothing better than feeling this way.
"First two orders chef!" the waiter slid through the hole.
Claire took them and started yelling out the orders " 2 Benedicts, 2 Omelets and our special pancakes!"
"Yes chef!" they chimed simultaneously.
Claire and I looked at each other feeling content that we are our own bosses. I grabbed the plates and waited to plate.
"How long more? Claire bellowed.
"40 seconds chef!" true enough, 40 seconds later, the dishes were cooked perfectly and I helped Claire plate them up with fancy sauces and glazes.
Everything was going great till it was time for the desserts to be served during lunch.
"Chef, the panna cotta is too hard. It's not coming out of it's molds." my chef said.
"Claire, we have a slight problem." I yelled to her. She came over and I explained the situation.
"Just think, You can do it."
"Alright, just grab me the blow torch. Heat the ring up then tap it out. It should be fine. I'll scoop out the raspberry sorbet . Claire you handle the chocolate sauce." I ordered.
Within moments, the desserts began to fly out the window. By the end of the service which was at about 3, I was ready to curl up on the floor.
Bree walked in with Nana with huge smiles on their faces "Everyone is in love with this place and the food."
"They didn't realize there was a glitch in the desserts?" I asked hopefully.
"None at all." Nana hugged me.
"You know what, I suggest that we open the restaurant only in the evenings. There is no way we can do this the whole day." Claire said.
"I agree. That way I can run the bakery in the mornings and train someone else to help out in the evenings without me having to struggle." I sighed
"Miss Baker, there is someone here to see you. He said he's a friend of yours." the waiter said.
"Who.. Oh right. Danny."
"Wait.. Danny as in gym Danny?" Bree said shocked.
"Danny the hot gorgeous blond with a body that kills Danny?" Claire teased.
"Honey, I didn't know there was a Danny. You better get out there." nana added.
"Ughh guys. He's just a friend." I whined and went into the waiting area of the restaurant.
He was there holding a bouquet of red roses. "Kat, hey." he got up and handed them to me.
"These are beautiful. Thank you." I hugged him.
"I was hoping to maybe take you for dinner. But I guess you are tired?"
"No actually, that would be great. Nothing fancy though. A slice of pizza and some beer would be great." I smiled.
"Seriously? Wow ok let's go then."
"Let me just get out of these chef whites. Give me 10." I hurried back into the kitchen where everyone looked at me expectantly.
"We are going for dinner. Just pizza cause I am wiped out. But that's a start right?"
"Ok, I have some spare clothes." Claire motioned to our special rest area.
"I have your favorite shade of lipstick." Bree added
"I'll do that fishtail braid you like so much." nana smiled.
"Well hustle people!!" I laughed.
Within 8 minutes, I walked back out into the area "Alright Danny, let's get outta here."
Throughout dinner, I decided that yea, he was a very good looking guy. I tried very hard to try to find something that would get me hooked onto him. But there was nothing. No spark. At the end, I told him straight that I wanted to just be friends.
"How did it go?!" Bree interrogated me as soon as I stepped into my place.
Everyone was just lazing around on the sofa with wine in their hands.
"Any lip action. Or any action at all. One of us needs to be getting acting. It's been so long. Too long." Claire said dramatically. All nana did was laugh.
"No, no action. There won't be any action. It was a nice date but there was nothing between us." I poured myself some wine.
"Meh, at least you tried. Maybe now that Rosa's is open, we could mellow out and have lives." Bree said.
We all looked at each other and burst out laughing. "Mellow out? Wishful thinking eh Bree? If anything, we are going to stay busy or get busier. No man is gonna want to date a busy woman." Claire whined.
"You girls are so negative. You thought Rosa's wasn't going to ever happen and look how that turned out. If anything, you'll find a man you can adapt to your lifestyle and be proud of what you are doing." nana said.
"Let's just hope that will happen some day. I'm taking these babies, and heading to the tub. Goodnight." I said picking up the half empty wine bottle and everyone said goodnight.
Kicking my room door shut, I lit some vanilla scented candles, drew my curtains shut and switched on the AC. My room was cozier than ever. Back in the house I grew up in, there was not much decorations but now.. this room was perfect.
I switched on my computer check on my emails. While waiting for everything to load, I walked into the toilet and started filling the huge tub with water. I added a lavender ball that dissipated and fizzled out as soon as it hit the water.
Stripping out of my clothes, I went back to check my mails. Tomorrow was my day to shine. My suppliers were all set to deliver my fresh goods at 5 in the morning. That was the thing about baking that i loved a lot.
The hours that I worked would be a pain in the ass for most people, but I loved working then. It was quiet, and no one was around making unnecessary noise. I made most of the artisanal loafs of bread myself, and at 7 the workers came in to start working on pastries and cakes. Things that were easy to handle for them.
Picking up my laptop, I brought it into the toilet and placed it on the stool next to the tub. I sank into the tub enjoying the luke warm water that soothed my muscles. I took a sip of wine and stared at the screen in front of me.
My mind wandered to all that happened to me, and where I was at with life. Was I happy with all my career goals? Yes. Did I wish that I could go and start dating? Heck yea. Would be great to make out with a delicious man. Girl had needs to.
She saw a few guys in school but decided it was just really not worth her time. Katherina liked to think that she was one of the very few women that had standards for herself and she needed to stick by them. Feeling hurt was not nice and she was someone who hurt easy and hurt hard.
Her mind drifted to Talen. How was he? Did he ever come back to get his stripes and get time off.
Instantly she found her fingers typing up Sarah's e-mail address and password.
Her heart raced as she saw an e-mail from Talen. It was sent yesterday.
