"There's a bathroom through that door." Peggy said, pointing to the door on the left. Then she pointed to the right door. "And I think you're gonna want to see what is in here."
She opened the door for Y/N, and Y/N walked into the smaller room with amazement written on her face. The room was full of colorful dresses and corsets. Each dress had its own intricate design, and the fabrics were made of rich texture. Y/N held one of the dresses up against her body, it looked like it would fit her perfectly. These dresses had to cost the Schuyler's a fortune.
"Where did you get these?" Y/N gasped, as she twirled the dress around.
Peggy giggled as she watched Y/N's glee. "We had Mr. Mulligan alter some of the dresses in his shop to fit you, when we heard you were going to be staying with us."
"Some of the dresses?" Y/N laughed. "It looks like you bought out the whole store!"

A week had passed since Y/N had moved into the Schuyler home. She missed her brother dearly, but the past few days with the Schuyler's had been amazing. Whenever she went into town with her new wardrobe and the accompaniment of the sisters, everyone would stop to look. For the first time, she felt important, like people cared. Y/N never felt important to anyone. Well, that wasn't exactly true. Alex made her feel special. And, Y/N couldn't explain it, but when Lafayette was around, he made her feel important.
Eliza had spent the last few days asking Y/N about her old life and her brother. Eliza was very sweet, but obviously very taken with Y/N's brother. Peggy kept mostly to herself, but she took time to make sure Y/N was adjusting well to her new home. Y/N also caught Peggy writing about John Laurens in her journal one night after dinner. Eliza and Peggy were both fun to hang out with.
The real problem was Angelica. When Y/N had first met Angelica, she seemed super cool and smart. Not to say that she wasn't now, but all Angelica could talk about was Lafayette. Y/N found her chatter about the Frenchman annoying. Angelica kept gushing about how handsome he was, and how attractive his accent was. Truth be told, Y/N would have been fine with Angelica's obsessing if it wasn't over Lafayette. Y/N felt a strong connection between herself and Lafayette, and it annoyed her to hear Angelica talk about him like he was hers.
Today, Angelica and Eliza had decided to take a trip to the post office to see if the soldiers had sent them any mail yet. Having nothing else to do, Y/N and Peggy tagged along. They took one of the comfy carriages down the road to the town's post office, and the ladies stepped out one by one. Angelica was the one to address the clerk standing at the counter.
"Hello, Stephen!" She said with a bright grin. "Is there any mail for the Schuyler's this week?"
The clerk nodded, and went to open a numbered box, pulling out a medium sized stack of letters. He handed them over to the eldest Schuyler, and gave her a dopey smile. It seemed Angelica had captured the admiration of the young mail clerk.
"Thank you, Stephen." Angelica said politely, taking the mail and heading back to the carriage. Once the girls were nicely settled in, Angelica began to shuffle through the mail. Most of the items were addressed to their father, but there were a few sent to the ladies of the house.
Peggy received a thin envelope from John Laurens. Angelica shot her youngest sister a suggestive look. Eliza received a thicker envelope, from no other than Alexander Hamilton. Y/N also received an envelope from her brother. And Angelica? Nothing. Nobody sent Angelica a letter. Although she put on a facade of happiness, Y/N could tell that Angelica was upset Lafayette hadn't sent her a letter yet.
Y/N opened her letter from Alexander, eager to know what he had to say.
Dear Y/N,
How is it living with the Schuyler's? I'd imagine it's better than the conditions here at camp. I'm currently sharing a small tent with a man almost twice my height, Monsieur Lafayette. Do you know him well? He's constantly asking about you. Anyway, I seemed to have found my place here. Washington is very nice man, and I love working here. The men are quite rowdy here, but nothing I haven't faced before. We're supposedly going to fight a battle soon, but I guess I shouldn't be sharing that information unless it gets in the wrong hands. Stay safe Y/N, I number the days until I can see you again.
-AlexanderY/N found a pen and parchment, and began to transcribe a letter back to her brother.
Dear Alexander,
I'm glad you're enjoying your new home, I just wish I could be with you. The Schuyler's have been very welcoming. They bought me a plethora of new dresses! Why has Monsieur Lafayette been asking about me? We met briefly a few times, but that's it. Anyway, send him my regards. Angelica Schuyler has been waiting for a letter from him since you guys have departed. I believe she is greatly heartbroken that he hasn't sent her one yet. I saw that you wrote Eliza a long message. Are you and her official yet? If so, I approve. Eliza's very sweet, don't break her heart. That's all I have to say now.
-Y/NY/N sealed the letter into an envelope, and began to address it. She tried to play it cool while writing about Lafayette. Y/N wasn't sure she wanted her brother to know about her crush on the Frenchman.
