Of course, my job had gotten a bit more boring these past few years. I had to keep up the façade of being dead for the rest of the world, including my most trusted business partners. So far, I had been forced to kill eight of them because they simply couldn't stay loyal. Quite funny what happens when someone 'dies', everyone thinks they can do whatever they please. Well, those bastards were in for a surprise when I showed up on their doorstep with a gun in my hand and a wicked grin on my face.
You would think that the major names in the crime world wouldn't lower themselves to the pathetic ordinary people, who plead for their lives right before I kill them, but then you'd be incorrect. They were no different from all the others I killed during my active years. Quite dull if you ask me.
I sighed deeply and sunk deeper into the comfortable sofa. A low profile life didn't offer many jobs nor did it provide ways to relieve myself of my boredom, but it would only be a few more months before the preparations were ready and I could reveal myself to the world again, in order to hopefully give humanity a well-deserved heart attack. For now, I had to lower myself to the standards of- what the big bad Mycroft Holmes called- 'goldfish'.
I grabbed the remote from the coffee table and quickly got comfortable again before surfing the many TV channels. One news reporter after another flashed before my eyes, reporting the many dull and useless crimes performed in the world. Oh, how I couldn't wait until every channel in the world would only show my face and screams of terror from the people. I chuckled at the thought before quickly shaking it off and looking for something interesting enough to watch. I couldn't get too excited now, could I? I'd never be able to survive these hellish months if I got myself all worked up. Luckily, (Y/N) offered me enough distraction to keep this dull lifestyle up for a while.
After a few minutes of aimlessly searching for a show worthy enough of my attention, I settled for Supernatural. I had always loved the bloody and violent scenes as those two hunters killed one thing after another.
It didn't take long before I was completely invested in the show, which was evident in the way I was sitting on the edge of the couch, my hands excitedly clapping as another demon was executed. As the scene changed to a more calmer one with not enough blood for my liking, my eyes began to drift to the edge of the TV. It took me a moment to fully process it, but as soon as my brain had caught up with my eyes, I jumped off the couch and let out a shriek of fear.
I hurriedly dove behind the piece of furniture before it could harm me. On the television was the biggest, meanest and most demonic spider I had ever had the displeasure of seeing. As it moved, another shriek escaped my lips and I hid further behind the sofa, only my eyes visible at the top as I stared at the monster that was terrorising me. I quickly pulled one of my shoes off and held it above my head, aiming it at the spider. ''Any final prayers before you die, you demon creature?!'' I asked loudly. After not getting a response, I threw the shoe at the TV while screaming on top of my lungs and hiding behind the red sofa. I didn't dare look up to witness the deed, unaware if I had actually killed it or not.
All the commotion coming from me had apparently nearly given (Y/N) a heart attack. She came running down the steps, a thin towel covering her wet body as she frantically looked around the living room. Once she spotted me hiding behind my only piece of protection, she ran towards me.
''James?! What happened? Are you okay?'' She rambled.
''Is it dead?'' I whimpered.
''Is what dead?'' She questioned, a confused look replacing her fearful one.
''THE DEMON SPIDER!'' I yelled, pointing at the TV.
Her gaze shifted and she soon spotted the spider on the frame of the TV. She instantly burst out laughing, so much so that she had to hold her aching stomach. ''Jimmy, that is the tiniest and most innocent spider I have ever seen! It's barely the size of a breadcrumb.''
''Just get rid of it!'' I yelled frantically.
(Y/N) continued to laugh as she carefully removed the spider, using a handkerchief. ''There you go. The 'monster' has been eliminated and it is now safe to sit on the sofa again,'' She joked.
I hurriedly got up and embraced her. ''You saved me,'' I breathed.
''I sure did.'' She laughed. ''Now, watch your bloody show while I finish my shower and drown this tiny spider.''
