Monster AU (Part two)

"Because I was human once," she replies sadly, "but I have unfinished business. I can't leave until I do it."

"You're a ghost," Rollan realizes. Ghosts weren't real, but were they?

"I'm very real and warning you now-" the girl shrieks as an arrow made of wood sails through her.

"Really?" Conor asks from behind him.

The girl groans, "I was bored! I wasn't going to actually do anything."

"You lied and said we were going to kill him," Abeke points out.

"Okay, that's true-"

"Tasha, we talked about this."

The girl, Tasha tugs at her hair, "I know. It's boring okay? I was trying to save him."

"Save me?" Rollan exclaims in disbelief, "from what?"

"From the dark forces forming in the woods, I was trying to make you go back to your village and forget about this-"

"I'm looking for my mom. I'm not going back," Rollan explains.

"You should go back," Tasha repeats, "a human can't survive what's going on- oh you have to be kidding me," Tasha suddenly says glaring at the people behind Rollan. Rollan looks back to see a flash of guilt in Conor's eyes.

"You really think he's the half-blood?" Tasha questions, "you honestly believe that the random kid you stumbled across is the one to save everyone."

"Wait, what's she talking about?" Rollan interrupts.

"She's talking about a prophecy that isn't true. It takes a witch/wizard to fight a witch/wizard. All witches and wizards are extinct, so it can't be real," Meilin denies. She stands on top of a boulder, glaring down at Tasha causing the girl to go a little bit more transparent, "Tasha, why haven't you gone home?"

Tasha looks up at Meilin with wide eyes, "I can't," she whispers before fading away like the wind.

"What does she mean by she can't? She finished what she had to do," Conor says looking up a Meilin. It was at that moment that Rollan realized that Meilin was the leader, the one everyone went to with questions.

"I don't know," Meilin answers. Maybe she didn't know the answer to every question. Meilin jumps down from the rock, "let's keep moving. The longer we stay in one spot, the more demons that lock onto the human scent. Tasha being exhibit A."

"What did she mean by half-blood?" Rollan asks accidentally tripping to keep up with the group. When no one answers he repeats it louder, "what's a half-blood?"

"It's a child who is half human and half demon," Meilin snaps, "it's practically unheard of since no sane human would spend time with monsters."

"I'm here," Rollan points out.

"I said sane human."

Rollan quickly learned that demons and monsters had a much better stamina than humans. He felt like passing out and never waking up, but the other three were still keeping the same pace. It didn't help that the sun was already at the highest point, that meant he has traveled for almost half a day without breaking.

"I need to stop," he finally admits sitting down on a fallen log.

"Stop? Seriously? I told you guys, the meat sack was going to slow us down," Meilin reminds them, obviously not wanting to stop.

"Okay, what's your big hurry," Rollan snaps suddenly causing the dark haired girl to blink at his change in attitude, "If anyone should be panicking it's me! I'm looking for the only person in this world who actually loves me, so why are you in such a rush."
