Sentimental Sabotage

Start from the beginning

You couldn't let that happen. Sherlock was a huge threat to your criminal network and he had to be taken care of. Somehow, without attracting too much attention to the already famous detective, you had to stop him from finding out more. You couldn't kill him, the media would be focussing on Moriarty if that were to happen.

A different approach was needed. And after a long discussion between you and James, he concluded you had to infiltrate in his life, make him trust you and then convince him to stop digging without outing yourself as one of the biggest criminals out there.

Normally, you would simply get another pawn to do a job like this, but this wasn't just any other threat. This man had connections, the brains and the power to discover the dark secrets of your organisation. The risk of an inexperienced pawn messing up in front of the one and only consulting detective, the man who could deduce nearly everyone, was too big. So someone who was skilled at hiding their true nature had to do it instead. And after a lot of bickering, you were appointed to do the job instead of James.

You had both agreed that a woman- especially a woman as attractive as you were, had a bigger chance of getting through the barrier he put up and befriend him over time. You appeared innocent and as not much of a threat. It was completely untrue but it was incredibly convenient for this particular case. You had to create an opportunity to play a role in the life of Sherlock Holmes. Whether you had to play the role of the casual flatmate, a trusted friend or even a lover, it didn't matter. You had to direct him away from the case, and if that didn't work, you had to sabotage his investigation without him noticing. You had to trigger the 'sociopath's' emotions and bring him to his knees.

After several weeks of preparation, you were ready to take on the façade of an innocent woman in need of a roof over her head and someone to talk to. It had taken a while to collect as much information on the detective as you could in order to know how to get to him. You researched his weaknesses, emotional state and everything else you needed.

In the end, you didn't find much. Sherlock Holmes was a very private man who held up the image of being a cold and emotionless sociopath in front of the rest of the world. But from the small amount that you managed to gather, you knew that was anything but true.

Confident in your act, you said bye to James and headed to 221B Baker Street to start your mission and save the network you had worked on so hard to achieve.

You took a deep breath, messed up your hair and got into your role as a distressed lady in need of help before knocking on the door with the golden letters '221' on it. Within seconds, you could hear shouting and loud footsteps descending the stairs and soon, your eyes met Sherlock Holmes'.

''What do you need? I'm busy,'' He snarled, staring at you coldly.

''I-I'm terribly sorry to bother you, sir. But you were the first to answer the door and I- I, oh god.'' You burst out in tears, keeping the tremble in your voice whenever you spoke again. When you looked up, you could see sympathy in the detective's eyes and you knew your plan had worked, you just needed to add a little more to it. ''He wants to kill me, sir! You have to help me, plea-ease.'' You cried, holding your hands in front of your face.

You felt a hand on your shoulder and a small smirk tugged at your shaking lips, luckily remaining hidden by your hands.

''It's alright, it's alright. You can come in and stay here for as long as you need,'' He soothed, grip on your shoulder tightening as he guided you inside.

''T-Thank you.'' You sniffed, wiping the tears away. ''How can I ever repay you, sir?''

''You don't have to, and call me Sherlock, please.'' He mustered up a kind smile as he gently pushed you down onto his sofa. ''You try to collect yourself while I phone Scotland Yard. We'll get the guy who's trying to harm you.''
