*I wasn't expecting so many people to say yes to a part 2! Anyways, here you go.*
"Lance!" The sound of your voice, filled with such sorrow and pain, made a shiver run up each and every one of the paladin's spines.
"(Y/N), are you ok?" Shiro's concerned fatherly voice came from Lance's helmet.
"Lance is still in there! He...He's-"
"(Y/N), you need to calm down. Where are you?"
"By the ship." You whispered, feeling the tears trek out your eyes. Was he alright? Was he dead? Did that last shot knock him out of commission? Should you have fought harder to get him to leave instead of you? What were the Galra going to do to him?
"(Y/N)? (Y/N)!"
"What?" You shouted. "What do you want...?" You started sobbing, and you were tempted to throw off the helmet on your head so you could die. If Lance died saving you, you deserved to die too.
"No, no you don't." Shiro shook his head frantically. You must've spoke your thoughts. "If he saved you, he wanted you to stay alive. If you die then his efforts were wasted." You supposed he was right, but you really couldn't think straight when all the questions swimming through your mind you couldn't answer. Nobody you could talk with had the answers. "Pidge, go pick (Y/N) up."
"On it." Pidge said.
"What about Lance?" You asked. They weren't going to leave him, right?
"Keith, Hunk, you two..." Shiro trailed off. You got confused for a half second before realizing the ship with Lance in it was retreating.
"No no no no!" You shouted. The cannon was still trained in the Castle's direction, and as it fired off shot after shot, you tried to swim towards the ship. Turns out swimming got you nowhere, and as fresh tears filled your eyes, you tried to keep your sniffles down.
This is all my fault kept going through your mind, and though you knew that wasn't true, it felt like it should be. Why did you just go with his plan? Why didn't you try harder to let him know that you both could've made it out of there? If only Blue had dodged the cannon blast....
"We need to retreat." Shiro instructed. You understood why, they wouldn't be able to chase after the ship if a single hit from the cannon rendered them useless. The green lion flew over and scooped you into its mouth, and from there Pidge drove both of you back to the Castle.
You sat with your head in your hands, trying your best to remain strong and silent. You constantly wondered what Lance's fate was, and the options besides death weren't much better than dying. The unknown was what hurt you most. If you could just have a glimpse of what was happening to him, you wouldn't be ready to do something stupidly irrational to get him back.
"(Y/N)." Your head tilted up and your hands fell to your sides as Allura approached. "How are you doing?" She asked kindly. You just shrugged, your eyes falling to the floor and staying there. "You know I would never have sent either of you out there if I knew what would happen." No reaction from you. "We'll get him back (Y/N), I promise." She set her hand on your shoulder. Your eyes lifted briefly.
"When?" It felt like the first time you'd spoken in years.
"Soon." You looked back down and she sighed, trying desperately to think of something to lift your spirits. "Hey, you remember when you asked me why Lance always talked to me?" You nodded. "Well, most of the time we talked about you. Sometimes we discussed if you were jealous yet, we never knew if you were, while other times it was if you'd notice him if he did this or that. I never got around to telling him you always looked at him the way my mother looked at my father." She smiled and you felt your mood lift a little.
