I quickly step up and salute to Commander Erwin and he gives me a tight lipped smile.
"It's nice to finally put a face to a name, Captain. Perry has told me much about your strategic skills and excellence in combat."
"Thank you commander. I hope that I can live up to his good words and your expectations."
A woman with a tight ponytail and glasses steps closer to Erwin so she can look directly at me. "I've heard much about your skills, Captain. Very impressive." Her grin is so big it reminds me of a black hole almost.
"Thank you..." My voice trails off as I realize I have noidea who this lady is. My cheeks begin to feel warm, and the fear of embarrassing Perry and my unit begins to make my heart beat faster.
"Corporal Hanje Zoe." The overly excited woman extends her hand and I shake it thankfully.
I resume my spot next to Perry just as someone else is stepping forward.
"Commander Perry. I'm Captain Levi Ackerman, the one in charge of the Jaeger boy. I believe we met once."
So this is the infamous Captain Levi, I think to myself. He's not what I expected him to look like at all, but honestly no one expects me to be second in command to Perry. It's not hard for word to get around among military folk, and even though most people don't like to acknowledge the Phoenix Squadron as a part of the military, we still attend meetings and important functions. Obviously I know who Captain Levi was, or had at least heard of him, but I had never met him.
Perry nods and greets the shorter man with a smile. "Yes, at the trial, I remember you. That seems so long ago."
Captain Levi blinks slowly and nods his head, all while keeping the same stoic expression on his face. Then, he looks to me. His eyes bore into mine like he's searching for something inside. His cold, pale gaze makes me feel threatened slightly.
"I've heard of you as well, Captain Lux." Levi hardly even moves his mouth as he speaks to me, but his words are clear. "People seem to believe we have similar abilities, you and I."
For a moment the whole yard goes silent. It's almost like Levi speaking highly of another soldier compared to him is unheard of, but I guess when you have a skill of his caliber you have the right to brag.
"Yes, I believe people have told me that." I decide its best to leave out the part where they always say I'd probably kick his ass.
He averts his gaze back over to Commander Erwin. Erwin turns to face the soldiers behind him.
"Attention! The special operations force Phoenix Squadron will be joining us until further notice. If I hear of any disrespect towards these comrades I assure you it will not go unpunished."
His bold voice echoes off of the stone walls as every soldier nods their heads, and salutes him. He dismisses their salute with a wave of his hand.
"Welcome, Phoenix Squadron."
