Flowey.
You ignored that voice in your head.
You decided to just go back to bed. You were still kinda tired anyways, and you had only slept for an hour or two. So you did just that. You crashed into bed again and drifted off into sleep.
You were startled out of sleep a few hours later. "My child, my child--er, (Y/N)! The barrier is broken! You can go home now! We're all free!" Toriel seemed overjoyed as she shook you awake, and having just woken up you were very confused.
"W-what?" You murmured dumbly.
"You can go home, (Y/N)! Asriel broke the barrier and--"
"Who the heck is Asriel?" You asked.
Toriel grabbed your hand and helped you out of bed, even though you were perfectly capable of doing it yourself. "I'll explain on the way to the barrier--just come on." She smiled. It was sort of a painful smile. "I'll sorta miss you, but I guess you wanna go home to your family."
"Yeah... kinda." You replied, still confused.
As Toriel led you through the Underground, she explained what had happened. Flowey--that flower you had met earlier--had tried to hurt a kid named Frisk's friends, including Toriel. All the monsters came and tried to help but Flowey had taken their souls, along with six human souls. You shivered at the thought.
"And after that... he took a different form. It was like his old self but... but no...." Grief shined in Toriel's eyes, and you decided it was best not to ask what she meant by 'his old self'. "Anyways... then Frisk fought him and he changed to... who he used to be...." Toriel choked on her words. "He used his power to break the barrier and everyone's souls were returned. That means Asriel's going to turn back into... a flower...." She took in a deep breath before she said 'a flower' and breathed the words back out.
"I'm not sure I quite fully understand... but I get the point." You murmured as you and Toriel walked through the Underground. You were getting tired after an hour or so of walking and you asked Toriel if you could stop and rest.
"Well... I guess. We're not in a hurry." She agreed and you two sat down on a bench with little plants springing up and curling their vines around the wooden seat. You felt yourself slipping into sleep again, even though you had just rested before the walk began. Your body didn't hurt as much as it did when... when Flowey had tried to hurt you, but some parts still ached here and there. At least that's what you wanted to blame it on.
So, you let yourself drift.
You blinked open your eyes as Toriel gently prodded you awake. You were confused, and it took a second to remember. Crap... You thought, I fell asleep, didn't I? You noticed that there was a light that was pouring into the place. A light that seemed natural... had Toriel carried you all the way here?
"T-Toriel... did you really carry me here?" You asked, a bit embarrassed that she had to bring you to the barrier--or where the barrier once was, anyways.
"Yes, (Y/N)." She chuckled lightly. "I'm surprised that you stayed asleep throughout the journey. You were asleep for about... maybe eight or nine hours?"
"What?!" You exclaimed. How did you sleep that long? Toriel must be exhausted by now, having to carry you around. There were some other monsters around, gazing in wonder at the sunrise. Tears glimmered in some of their eyes, and Toriel gently put you down, helping you stand on your feet.
"Well..." She murmured. "What are we waiting for...?" She chuckled halfheartedly, and you could see the pain in her eyes. Must have been something about... Asriel, or whatever Toriel had called him. You and her held hands as you stepped out into the sunlight together, and even though you had just been down here for a couple days it had felt like forever since the sun had shined on your face. You smiled, looking into the clear blue sky and the greenery that coated the mountain.
You sighed. "Goodbye, I guess?" You murmured, embracing Toriel. She hugged you back, and you felt really choked up all of a sudden. You hadn't really loved Toriel too much, but she had been kind... and she would miss you. You felt a little bit of a deeper connection with the goat-like being. She finally released you after you shared a hug for more than a minute now.
"The way down... back to the humans... the journey will take a day or so." She suddenly reached into a small bag that you hadn't even noticed she was carrying and handed you a water bottle and two pieces of butterscotch-cinnamon pie that was in a plastic bag. "Hopefully this will be enough...." She murmured, eyeing you with worry.
"Wow... t-thanks, Toriel!" You hugged her again, but this time it was a quicker hug.
She smiled painfully. "Just keep going that way," she instructed, pointing west. You nodded. It wouldn't bee too difficult to find your way through the forest, right? You could do this. You could make it down the mountain. "Please... be safe."
"Goodbye, Toriel..." You smiled back, empathy shimmering in your eyes. You felt kind of guilty about leaving Toriel, but you needed to go home.
"Take care, (Y/N)... please visit me someday... I'll be here waiting... with everyone else." She closed her eyes, a bittersweet expression displayed on her face.
"I will, Toriel. I promise." You knew you were making a promise that you might not be able to keep, but you wanted to make Toriel feel better.
"Thank you...." She murmured, a tear streaking down her face. "Well... you should be off now. Have fun, if possible!" She called nervously and you realized that you two had been backing away from each other by accident.
"Bye..!" You managed a happy note in your voice as you were filled with determination to find your friends and family. You went in the direction that Toriel had told you to go in, a little spring in your step. It felt weird to be alone, but you were going home, where you belonged, so the thought helped numb the lonely feeling that settled in the out of your stomach. You hummed to yourself as you enjoyed the scenery, but also made sure to pay attention to where you were going and what surrounded you.
I'm going home, you thought, I'm really going home!
It had been a couple hours when you decided to rest a little. You grabbed the bag of pie and wolfed down one of the slices, not bothering to savor the taste. You instantly regretted it--you weren't gonna see Toriel in a while, maybe even forever, and you wouldn't taste her delicious pie for however long that was.
You got up again and started heading down the mountain once more. It wasn't long before things started to look only familiar; you felt like you had been here before. Maybe you were here before you fell in the--
You suddenly stumbled on a jagged rock, cutting your leg. Blood trickled down your leg, and you hobbled around in pain, not noticing the giant pit before you... you screamed loudly as you felt yourself falling, and you tried to twist around to look at the drop before you. You had fallen in once and now you were stupid enough to fall in again?
"NO!!" You screeched at the top of your lungs as that sensation you get when you're going down a drop on a roller coaster filled your belly. Tears burned behind your eyes as you imagined the immense pain that you would feel again, once you hit the ground again. Maybe this was just another hole, maybe it wasn't as deep, or maybe it was twice as deep and you were killed the moment you hit the ground--
These thoughts were silenced as you hit the ground and the world went dark.
Again.
