Chapter Twelve: Something smells fishy

Start from the beginning

[Tardis]

The Doctor was hanging underneath the console platform, doing some welding. Rory and Amy were just watching him, both on opposite sides of the room. Emily walks in without looking up.

"Hey, has anyone seen my-" She cuts off abruptly when she sees Rory.

"Rory?"

He waved a small, awkward wave. "Hey Em."

"Rory!" She shouted, dropping everything and running to attack him in a hug. Amy laughed.

"Woah-"

"Rory! My amazing Roricus Rex." She buried her face in his shoulder as he chuckled and hugged her back. "Oh Rory. Rory, Rory, Rory. Why can't everyone be as nice at hugging as you are?"

Emily loved hugging Rory. He was literally the only person she could hug without being bombarded by emotions. He was just so nice. Emotion wise, it was like hugging a big fluffy cloud of warm niceness. She could just let go of everything that others felt, and focus on his kindness.

The Doctor watched as Emily practically attacked Rory with her hug.

"Em does this all the time. It's so funny, every time." Amy told him.

If he was being completely honest, he was just a little bit jealous. He wanted to be where Rory was. He wanted to be the one Emily hugged. He wanted to be the reason her face lit up like that.

It can never work. Never.

The Tardis shocked him for the second time that day, and he shook his thoughts of Emily away as she let go of Rory.

"Oh, the life out there, it dazzles." He told the engaged couple. "I mean, it blinds you to the things that are important. I've seen it devour relationships and plans. It's meant to do that. Because for one person to have seen all that, to taste the glory and then go back, it will tear you apart. So, I'm sending you somewhere, together."

"Whoa. What, like a date?" Amy asked.

"Anywhere you want. Any time you want. One condition. It has to be amazing. The Moulin Rouge in 1890. The first Olympic Games. Think of it as a wedding present, because it's either this or tokens. It's a lot to take in, isn't it? Tiny box, huge room inside. What's that about? Let me explain."

"It's another dimension."

"It's basically another dimension." Then he realised what Rory said. "What?"

"After what happened with Prisoner Zero, I've been reading up on all the latest scientific theories. FTL travel, parallel universes."

"I like the bit when someone says it's bigger on the inside. I always look forward to that."

"Doctor, be nice." Emily warned playfully.

She ignored how his pout made her heart flutter.

"So, this date." Amy suggested. "I'm kind of done with running down corridors. What do you think, Rory?"

"How about somewhere romantic?" The Doctor grinned and pulled down a lever.

There was a big rattle and shake and they landed.

"I think I'll sit this one Doctor." Emily stated.

He looked over at her wide eyed.

"What? No, no, no, no, no, come on. It'll be fun." He said.

"Doctor, this is Amy and Rory's date. I'm not going to sit there like a third wheel and ruin it."

"No, come on. Please?" He pleaded. "They're going to be doing humany, coupley stuff and I need someone to show off to. Come on Emily. Please?"
