Chapter 36: Rest Your Head

"Well, I assume that if you're out at this time of night, that you're not tired. So, I'd like to see a demonstration of your independent exercise," Pearl told, "Now, I remember you saying you used the beams above, but there's no way you could reach those, even with jumping. Would you show me how you get up there?"

"Sure," Y/n sighed as they went to their desk and grabbed the chair. Y/n moved the chair to the center of the room and stood up on it, "Here we go," Y/n groaned as they jumped up and latched onto the beam above

"You said you've reached reps of twenty-five, right?" Pearl asked

"Mhm," Y/n nodded as they began the excersise

"See if you can get to thirty," Pearl told

"Is this really the best time to do this?" Amethyst groaned, "Y/n said they were gonna go to sleep now,"

"If they can stay up for you, they can stay up for me," Pearl said, "And I won't take nearly as long,"

"Yeah, but we were having fun," Amethyst told, "Not working,"

"Fun is subjective, isn't it?" Pearl smirked, "Just like being up late is,"

"Dude," Amethyst frowned, "Just chill out, so what we were up late? We were having a good time. Y/n doesn't have anything they gotta be up for tomorrow,"

"Five more, Y/n!" Pearl called, "Because it's not healthy. If Y/n is trying to convince their parents to let them stay, we have to make sure Y/n is being responsible,"

"You think they're gonna notice if Y/n sleeps in late on some day?" Amethyst rolled her eyes

"Yes, I do," Pearl said, "Alright, Y/n. Drop down,"

"Yo, Y/n, answer a question for me," Amethyst said as Y/n dropped onto the chair and panted

"Mmm?" Y/n looked up

"Back before you met us, did you sleep longer than usual on Saturday?" Amethyst asked

"I still do that," Y/n said, "Was planning on doing it tonight... Hell, I did it last night,"

"See?" Amethyst crossed her arms

"You slept in?" Pearl frowned

"Why do you think I showed up at the temple around two yesterday?" Y/n asked, "I woke up at two,"

"You said you'd be waking up at 9:30!" Pearl said

"I thought that only applied to summer break!" Y/n shot back

"C'mon Pearl. Let 'em do what they want," Amethyst insisted

"...As long as you're taking care of yourself," Pearl said, "I've already noticed you getting ill,"

"Well, it's not because lack of sleep," Y/n laughed, "I got twelve hours yesterday... Probably the weather,"

"Have you been keeping warm?" Pearl asked

"Mhm," Y/n nodded as they tugged on their hoodie

"Steven has been wearing his padded jacket," Pearl told

"He always wears that," Y/n waved off

"If you think so," Pearl sighed

"Finally," Amethyst sighed in relief, "Come on, I wanna sleep too,"

"Care to join us?" Y/n joked as they got their pajamas from the closet

"I will have to pass," Pearl told

"Your loss," Amethyst chuckled

"Alright you two know the drill," Y/n said as they twirled their finger in a clockwise manner
