"Why are you trying to run from me?"

"Are you only pretending to be an eight year old?" he asked, his voice showing he was completely puzzled. "Because you move faster than any eight year old I've ever seen. And you talk more maturely than one too."

He was right; everything that was happening didn't fit an eight year old body, but I was still myself, it was just as if a different, more powerful force had taken over my body and was commanding me to do things.

"What I am isn't your concern; it's not like you'll be leaving here alive."

Even the words were beginning to scare me. These weren't my words, and I did not want to kill this man. He was planning to kill me, but I don't want to be a murderer.

"Please stop! I never did anything wron-"

My right hand rose and his voice was cut off. He was moving his mouth, desperately trying to get words out, but it wasn't working.

I attempted at forcing my hand down in hopes that I could stop this unwanted murder, but it was a feeble and unsuccessful attempt.

My heart was beating in anticipation for what was to come.

A light blue jet of light shot out of my hand, and the man in front of me shattered into pieces.

My mouth flew open, and I stared at the shattered piece of what moments ago was a living being.

"What have I done? Is this real?" I whispered to myself, staring at my hand in shock. I suddenly wished I could cut it off and never deal with it again, although I knew even at the time it was impossible.

After a few moments of nothing, jets of color twirled out of my hand slowly mixing together. Yellow, green, red, blue, and purple all danced around each other, mingling and becoming one with each other.

My eyes widened in shock; I felt nothing, but it was clearly happening. I even pinched myself to see if I was dreaming, but I wasn't.

"How is this possible?" I breathed.

A brightness suddenly flowed into the picture shattering it, and destroying the image.

I awoke with a start, breathing heavily. I looked around me, and saw that I had forgotten to close my shades last night when I came back to the house. A cool breeze blew into my room through the window that I also forgot to close.

I rolled over in my bed, and looked at my alarm clock. 7:07.

I sighed, and pulled myself out of my bed, wishing desperately that I could just get back to sleep. It was just another dream about when I found out I had magic-something that happens often after I use my magic.

After pulling my window down and closing the shades, I turned to crawl back into my bed. That's when I saw him.

I nearly jumped out of my skin, and my heart began pumping five times faster than it was.

"What the hell are you doing here?" I screamed.

"Keep your voice down. You wouldn't want to wake up your family and explain me to them, would you?"

"I have no time for this, Grey. I just want to sleep," I said, my emotions shifting from fear to annoyance. "How did you even get here? My front door was locked."

"How would you know that? You were too busy leaving here and saving me."

"But how did you find me?" I asked, realizing I'd never said anything about where I lived.

"Would you stop with the questions?" he whisper-screamed.

I scratched my head, and buried it in my hands. What did he want?

"Is there any purpose to this visit, or can I just go back to sleep?" I asked, my eyelids drooping a bit.

"Yes, there actually is a purpose. I just wanted to tell you what the word of the year is."

"Okay," I said, motioning for him to continue. It seems stupid, but it was also intriguing me in a way I couldn't explain.

"It's careful, Ryder. The word is careful." His words sunk into me, but I didn't care at the time.

"Whatever, can you leave now?" I asked, desperate for some sleep.

He hesitated a moment, and then nodded and climbed out the window, which seemed to magically open itself. Magically - Just the one word that ran through my brain caused all of the pieces to fit together: Grey was a wizard. He had magic. Just like me.

But how was that possible? Why wouldn't he use it when he was being attacked by Mac? I groaned in frustration and threw myself down on my bed. That made no sense!

After minutes of debating inside of my head, I settled on the fact that my brain must have been working on its own while I was talking to Grey; I must have subliminally opened the window with my own magic. After all, I've never met another person wielding magic so far. The likelihood of that man being a wizard was very slim.

Feeling satisfied with my solution to the problem, I crawled back in my bed, and let myself drift off again.

But the truth was far from what I'd convinced myself of.

And there's chapter two! We just got to see stupidity at it's finest!

I hope you all enjoyed it and are excited to read some more! I promise we will learn more about Grey fairly soon!

Also, I'm fairly new at writing fantasy and experimenting with it, so if anything is unclear or poorly written, sorry, and that can probably blamed on how much of an amateur I am.

Thanks for reading!
