"We'll get them later." Adrian muttered, chuckling.
"I'm gonna have to sleep downstairs or something."
"You can sleep with Galen when he gets back." I blushed again. "I doubt he's going to plan on that, okay?" I nodded.
"What about before he gets back?" I asked.
"With me then." I swore the tips of my ears were red too. He laughed. "Trust me it's better that it's me than my dad. That would be insanely awkward."
"Mhmm."
"What to do today..." Adrian mumbled.
"I'm starving, I don't even remember when I last ate."
"I'll make you breakfast then." I followed him into the kitchen, my mind whizzing away about the future. How long would I have to stay here? I held the blanket tighter around me, settling myself on one of the bar stools. Adrian held a plate out to me.
"Your gonna want this." I took hold of it.
"Wh-" Five chocolate chip pancakes flew onto my plate then syrup and butter. "Wow thanks Adrian." I said. He set a fork and knife on the counter. I happened to notice he hadn't made any for himself.
"Aren't you going to eat?" I asked.
"No I rarely eat, its blood or nothing."
"Well you sure know how to cook." I said with a mouthful of pancakes. "How come?"
"When we were younger, I was the cook and my bro was the one who cleaned."
"Huh you'd make a great husband." I mumbled. He grinned. I had scarfed down the rest of the pancakes. I stretched and patted my stomach, dropping the blanket. "Where exactly are we anyway?" I asked.
"We're in Virginia and Rayas is countries away so we shouldn't have to worry about him." The conversation ended and turned to awkward silence.
"I'm going to go for a hike." I said, breaking the silence..
"I'll come with you."
"But you'd be done in two seconds." I whined.
"Oh come on, what makes you think I'd do that? Don't you trust me?" That question I didn't have an answer for. I should yet I didn't. It was complicated.
"Okay...maybe not." He turned to walk out of the kitchen.
"Wait!" I snatched his hand. He turned around, a surprised expression on his face. "....I do trust you."
"Then let's go." He pulled me along by the hand and helped me across the creek. I was in bare feet which I never experienced before. The soft grass was interesting, the dirt moist from the mountain mist. A woodsy smell filled the air, a mixture of pine, soil and fresh water. We walked along the creek, taking our time as we went. It was so intriguing. I gasped.
"What's that?" I asked, pointing to a strange looking creature. It was orange with black spots, it had the body of a mouse but instead of fur it was covered in scales.
"You've never seen a salamander before?"
"No, is that what it's called?"
"Yeah." He picked it up, holding it out to me. Curious, I held out my hand and he placed it in it. It had small claws on its feet which gave me a prickling feeling as it crawled. I stroked its back, careful not to put pressure on it. I got to its tail and it fell off.
"Oh my gosh did I hurt it?"
"No, probably not, its tail falls off if it's touched there." Its beady eyes stared at me, my face reflecting in them. It started to crawl off my hand.
