Chapter 48: The Surprise

"Crown and cape," Y/n repeated, "Never wore those for a birthday,"

"Well, now you do!" Steven smiled as he jumped up and put the crown on Y/n's head, "I've got a question though,"

"Shoot," Y/n said as they grabbed the cape Steven handed to them and put it around their neck

"When it was your birthday, why didn't you say anything?" Steven asked

"I kind of forgot," Y/n chuckled a bit, "We were busy with that mission, y'know the one that took like a week to do. The days flew by and I didn't really notice,"

"We made you miss your birthday?" Steven poyted

"You guys didn't MAKE me miss my birthday, it just happened while we were doing something," Y/n told, "There's always next year,"

"Well, we have a party now! So let's be happy about it!" Greg tried lifting the mood

"Yeah, we made you breakfast too!" Steven smiled

"We ordered it from Pancake Place," Garnet gestured to the Styrofoam containers on the fold out table behind the group

"We tried to make you breakfast," Pearl clarified

"There may have been a small fire," Amethyst laughed

"It was my first time making crepes! Give me a break!" Steven groaned

"You'll get 'em next time, Stuball," Greg assured

"I'd be glad to be the taste tester if you need one," Y/n smiled

"Yeah, that'd be great!" Steven beamed

"I just noticed," Pearl commented, "You're still in your pajamas,"

"Didn't really have time to change," Y/n said, "Amethyst barged into my room like the Earth was about to explode because some giant monster in the center of the Earth was emerging,"

"Amethyst!" Pearl chastised

"What? Steven told me to get Y/n here quick and to not tell them why," Amethyst defended

"I mean, it did work," Connie reminded

"But, you didn't have to scare Y/n!" Pearl said

"Y/n wasn't scared, right?" Amethyst asked

"Maybe if I had been awake when she ran in, but not I wasn't... Mostly confused," Y/n told, "Anyways, what's the plan for the party?"

"First, a grand breakfast!" Steven said proudly, "Then, while we're digesting, we have a video game tournament! After that, we've got some beach fun time, complete with chicken fights and sand castle building!"

"Wait, chicken fights?" Greg interjected, "Like the one where someone gets on the others shoulders while they're in the water and they try to push someone else off someone else's shoulders, right?"

"Yeah, what other chicken fighting is there?" Steven frowned

"...Never mind," Greg sighed in relief

"As I was saying," Steven cleared his throat forcefully, "After the beach, we're gonna have a barbecue lunch!"

"Catered by yours truly," Greg said confidently

"And me too!" Steven said

"Of course, Steven," Greg laughed

"Then after lunch, we've got the gift unwrapping!" Steven pumped, "And then we can go to Funland if you're not all partied out! Maybe some karaoke after!"
