As soon as the words left my mouth, I knew she was going to make me regret them. She poked my arm and her lips turned up into a mischievous smile. "Why don't you ask Henry?"

"Oh no," I exclaimed, shutting her antics down right away. "Henry is the last person I'd ask to go on a double date with me, and I'm sure he feels the same way."

Lyah frowned, pursing her lips. She didn't respond at first, and it seemed as if she was finally accepting defeat. I smiled triumphantly and reached for the remote, thinking I could finally get into my show.

Unfortunately for me, the sound of footsteps coming down the hallway provided yet another interruption. I closed my eyes in an effort to brace myself, but it didn't stop me from recognizing the all-too-familiar voice.

"Don't be so sure, Shortie."

I reluctantly looked over to see Henry standing against the wall with his arms crossed over his chest. He was, of course, donning his signature smirk. I hadn't seen it in a while. A chill rippled through me.

"What do you mean?" I asked him, sitting up straighter. "How much of that did you hear?"

He shrugged, but the scheming smile on his face made it clear that he knew exactly what he was doing. "Enough to know that the two of us are going on a double date tonight."

Lyah squealed and planted a sloppy kiss on my cheek as a show of gratitude, while I sat there in shock. "I'm going to start getting ready right now!" She giddily announced, giving Henry an affectionate pat on the chest as she passed him by.

A small smile played on Henry's lips as his eyes trailed behind her. Once she was gone, his gaze fell on me, and I found myself hoping he couldn't hear my heartbeat.

I glared at him, growing more suspicious by the second. "Alright, Casanova," I snapped at him. "Do you want to tell me what you're up to?"

He held his hands up in the air in a show of innocence. "I'm not up to anything. I'm just helping out a friend."

I stood up, unintentionally mimicking his position by crossing my arms as well. "Really? You're telling me that you don't have any ulterior motives?"

He pushed himself off of his spot on the wall and took a step in my direction. "Well, what other motives could I possibly have?"

I swallowed forcefully. Now the heat was on me. I knew where my mind was going, but I wasn't about to admit it to him. "You just love getting under my skin, don't you?" I shot back, evading the question.

"What can I say?" He replied, without taking his eyes off of me. "I can't help it. But something tells me you don't mind it half as much as you say you do."

I shook my head, confused. "What are you on about now?"

"Becca texted me this morning," He informed me, taking a few more steps forward. "She told me to stay away from you. She insists you have a thing for me. Honestly, I can't say I'm surprised."

"Please," I sputtered, taken aback by his cockiness. "Becca's full of it. You must know that better than anyone."

"She might be full of it," he echoed in agreement, "but that doesn't mean she's wrong." The smug expression on his face lingered still, and I wanted to wipe it right off more and more with every passing second.
