Chapter Twenty-One: Surprising News

Start from the beginning

“No, I’m telling you that Gaspard Ulliel is way better than Channing Tatum,” Miranda argued.

“What the hell? Are you blind?! Channing is much, much hotter.”

“Nope, I’m not blind. Maybe you are. Gaspard is just… perfect.”

I smirked as I swung my locker door open. Yeah, maybe Channing Tatum and Gaspard Ulliel are handsome and all that, but I’m still a Chase Crawford fan.

My thoughts were interrupted when a note fell from my locker. I frowned as it landed on the ground. I bent to pick it up, my heart throbbing. Deep inside, I know who it was from. But somehow, I don’t want to read what he wrote.

When I stood up again, my hands started to shake and turn sweaty. Damn it, why can’t I control my nerves or something? Biting my lip, I flipped the note over so I can read the message.

Sure enough, Ian’s boyish handwriting greeted me. He wrote: Victoria, please talk to me or even text me back. I seriously need to talk/text you. There’s so much I need to explain. I know I am a heartless bastard because of what I did to you. But I’m only human and I can do mistakes. And I’m a human who is in love so I can make double mistakes. Please. If you ever want to see me or something, I’ll be in the back of the school later. Maybe 3 pm to 4:30. I’ll be waiting—I don’t even care if you don’t come. – Ian, xxx.

I bit my lip as I finished reading the note. I wanted to go later. But I know I mustn’t. I can’t move on if I need to talk to him about these things. I don’t want to hear his explanations. Who knows if he was lying? I believed him at first—who says I can’t fall again on his trap?

“Hey, Victoria,” Miranda chirped suddenly, making me jump, startled. “What are you reading?”

“I—uh, just some random note I found on my locker,” I lied, shoving the note inside my pockets. Somehow, I don’t want to tell Miranda and Suzanne about this. “You two go on. I need to fix some things.”

Suzanne raised an eyebrow. “Are you sure it’s some random note?”

            I nodded. “Yep.”

She shrugged nonchalantly. “So you don’t mind if I read it?”

I rolled my eyes. "I do."

Suddenly, her eyes twinkled with excitement. “Oh! Is it a love letter?”

“What? No!” I said, frowning at her.

Miranda smirked at me knowingly. “Yeah, right. Who’s it from?”

I glared at them both. “It’s not a love letter. You two better go now or else I’m going to accidentally drop salt on your hot chocolate again.”

They rolled their eyes at me but left me at peace. I breathed a sigh of relief as I grabbed the books, tossing them inside my bag. But my mind wasn’t in it. I was thinking about Ian, waiting for me later. He’s still going to wait for me even though I’m not coming. Would he really wait for me? Would he really stay there for an hour and a half, waiting for someone who won’t go?

Immediately, guilt washed over me. My mind was telling me not to go. But my heart was telling me to go. Good God, why can’t they agree for once?!
